GM Chat

While finishing an RFC run via the LFG tool, a notification in my chat popped up saying, "A GM wants to chat with you." This was in a decidedly blue color. I would think this is an attempted exploit, except for the fact that a clickable tooltip appeared on my screen with the same text and a Blizzard logo. I grew curious and went to click the tooltip. Before I could however, or perhaps at the same moment that I did, my screen froze and I was disconnected. Upon trying to reconnect, I received the "A Character with the same name already exists" error. After a couple more attempts, however, I succesfully logged back on, and nothing about the game changed, except that I was booted towards the start of the dungeon again.

Thus, my question is: Was this legitimate, or yet another attempted exploit? If this was an exploit, then this is the most creative one I've ever seen. If, however, this was indeed a GM legitimately trying to chat with me, then why? Why would a GM want to chat with me?

Thank for your help! :D

As your fellow players have noted, Davel, the "chat request " was indeed legitimate. Provided that you've no AddOns blocking the functionality of the chat request system, that message will appear any time a Game Master wishes to speak with you.

Here's a few official screenshots just for confirmation:

Also, you can read a bit more about this functionality here:

Since it looks like you may have missed what the Game Master said to you, here's a recap:

Due to a violation in the Naming Policy, this guild will be renamed. You will be temporarily removed from the game to help facilitate this. Please contact your Guild Master if you would like further details. Thank you.

This is an automated message. You will not be able to reply to the Game Master.

Hope that helps clear things up!
