Why are gold spammers simply not filtered?

Title says it all. Why are we constantly bombarded by Susan when it is simplicity itself to filter out the domain name? It costs money and takes time to create a domain. Filtering it out will go a long way to stopping gold spamming. WoW even already has a filter...the profanity filter. Why not a gold spammer filter?

Q u o t e:
There are only so many ways to break it up before it becomes unintelligible.

You would be surprised, Faline.
Q u o t e:

Certainly, the spammers create more work for both the servers and Blizz employees than a filter would.

Yes, and when you filter all the variations, if that is even possible, then they simply create a new website name and advertise using that.

I understand the frustration that these advertisements can cause but we aren't simply sitting around baffled as to what we could possibly do to help the situation. There are a great many mechanics in place to prevent a lot of the spam that it out there. As my colleague Malkorix said regarding Botting, though it applies here as well.

Q u o t e:
Unfortunately, the depth and breadth of these activities may be something the average player never becomes aware of - it is difficult to appreciate the moat and the castle wall, if you never happen to see the thousands of arrows that they stymie. It's the one arrow that lands in your soup that you become aware of, as it were.

We do what we can to prevent as much of the spam as we can, for those that may get through please use the Report Spam feature to report it. That is why the mechanic was created after all. If you believe you have an idea that we should use you are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum where our Developers and Community Managers can review your feedback.

Q u o t e:

Can't Blizzard make a Trial Account Only server? It might cut down on the spam.

It might but it would also prevent many people from trying the game out with their friends.

Q u o t e:
No, I meant what I said.

If you did mean what you said you would be mistaken on that one point, Myburger, trial accounts are not able to whisper players unless first whispered to or if they are on a person's friends list.

.... so in other words, nothing is going to be done about it.

Thanks for finally taking the time to tell us this.

At least now I know I can stop wasting my time reporting spam if nothing is going to be done about it.

What an interesting and completely fallacious leap you have made, Nobully. I did not say nothing would be done about it, nothing I said even remotely came close to saying anything like that. The point I was responding to was about filtering specific names and variations of those names. How you got to "nothing will be done about anything you report" I can't imagine.

We do what we are legally able to do, Brenda. One thing that most people forget is that those of us who work here also play the game. From In-Game Support, to Development, to the heads of the company, nearly every one of us is a gamer too. We don't want to deal with spam any more than you do and I can assure you that our teams do everything in our power to address these issues.

We also have to keep in mind our legitimate players, as we don't want to negatively impact them by what measures we take.

It was likely that they were turning an annoyance into a joke. :)
