Why do hackers -delete items, pets etc?

Being recently hacked Ive been thinking about the mindset of the hackers. Ive read on here about people getting all their pets deleted, guilds disbanded/deleted, 80s deleted etc
WHY??
Surely they just want to get in and out, sell whatever and move on. Why take all that time to say delete 50 pets or all your PVP gear. Mindless virtual vandalism you say? Seems strange to me. Surely having as slight an impact on the account would be best, makes the account holder less likely to get an authenticator, remove the keylogger, install a firewall etc. So they would be ripe for the next attack.

It seems I got off lightly, a lot of stuff that could have been vendored wasnt, but I had a lot of gold so maybe they were happy with that.

The more damage done - the longer WE are tied up getting you put back into shape.

Make no mistake - this is a war and they are thieves. Nothing is too dirty or underhanded for them to attempt to continue lining their pockets with ill-gotten gains.
