Do Hackers wind up keeping stolen gold?

As mentioned in a previous post, my husband's account got hacked today. I'm just wondering if the hackers are able to keep the gold, or does Bilzzard have some method of going in and creating reprecussions for this?

I just wonder because it kinda irks me that someone can go in and steal months of hard work for nothing. Then it takes days of hard work on the part of Blizzard to restore this to the player. On top of it all, the hacker makes money from selling stolen gold.

We watched my husband's account get hacked via my account. I watched the hacker log on (while my husband was simultaneously logged on at one point) to multiple characters and then remove on toon from our guild. They had placed a authenticator on the account so my husband could not log back in. I'm just thinking that it should be possible for Bilzz to track down who the gold was sent to, or if they had joined another guild to place in a guild bank, etc. If nothing else, would they not be able to trace the phony authenticator?

Is there any way Blizzard can catch hackers or are they completely helpless in this situation? Is it even something they are persuing?

Our logs contain all the necessary information to investigate these issues and reclaim all missing gold, Xabrina.

Q u o t e:
I understand that we will get back all of the missing gold. I was more curious (mainly on principle) whether or not they still get to keep the gold that they have stolen or if it is actually taken back from them. If they still keep it, would this not create massive server inflation, considering the number of hacks occuring daily?

Oh, my apologies. We use the term "reclaim" to mean re-obtain or remove. We try to reclaim and restore gold using our in-depth logs. :)
