Cata healing environment will be different?

I would like to ask the healing community where they are getting all of these ideas about how the healing environment is going to change in Cataclysm? The only solid information that I have ever seen with regards to this are two statements made by the developers. The first statement indicated that health pools will be larger and heals will therefore be smaller portions of a character’s total health. The second statement indicated that raid-wide AoE damage was still going to be part of boss fights.

I have heard people claim healing will be less spammy, we’ll have lots of time to select heals, etc. I simply cannot see any evidence for this. Where are people getting these ideas from? As far as I can tell, aside from the larger health pools, there is simply no evidence to suggest that the healing environment is going to be any different from what it is now. Past experiences tend to support this as going from Ulduar to ICC really brought no dramatic changes. All of the general mechanics that appeared in Ulduar showed up again in ICC.

Now, it is entirely possible that there may indeed be significant changes in the healing environment come Cataclysm but I would caution people not to assume that things are going to be different just because of hopeful wishes. Perhaps when the open beta commences we will be able to get a more accurate feel for what the healing environment will really be like. Until then, I will not be making any assumptions about the healing environment being significantly different. If folks have any hard evidence at this point in time, to show that it will be different, I am all ears! Please let us know!

The first part is definitely a goal. The second part has been taken out of context a bit. I was saying that I was sure we would still have *some* fights with raid-wide AoE damage because that mechanic is one way to make healing feel different from encounter to encounter. But it is not a design to have persistent damage auras as part of every encounter. It's also not a design goal to have crowd control part of every encounter, but overall we expect you'll be doing more CC (and therefore less group tanking) than in Wrath.
