Lag spikes and disconnects, high world ms

Since 4.1 I've been experiencing strange lag, I normally sit around 30 ms home and world, but then I'll randomly get a lag spike where everyone freezes running in place, sometimes this will only last a few seconds, sometimes it will last 10 seconds then disconnect me. Sometimes when this happens my world latency will shoot to 150-800 while my home latency stays at 30, other times my latency stay low bu the freezes and disconnects continue. It seems to happen most often in battlegrounds and arenas.

I've checked to make sure my internet is working fine, I've tried turning off add-ons, I've even reformatted my computer and the problem persists. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Triant,

Let's start off by gathering some information about your connection.

  • Are you utilizing a wireless connection of any kind?
  • Name of your ISP
  • State you live in? Are you connecting from a university or corporate network?
  • Router make and model (this should be printed somewhere on the front or back or bottom)
  • Cable or DSL Modem make and model
  • Network Adapter and Drivers (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/21137)
  • Do you use Firewall software? (e.g. McAfee, Norton, ZoneAlarm, etc.)

In addition, will you post the results of a traceroute?

For Windows XP:

Click Start and then Run
Type in CMD and press Enter
In the command window, type 'tracert us.logon.battle.net > C:\tracert.txt' (without the quotes) and press the Enter key.
A file will be created on your C: drive called tracert.txt that contains your Traceroute information. Please be patient when waiting for the tracert command to complete, it may take several minutes. When you are returned to the command prompt, then the trace is complete.

For Windows Vista and 7:

Click Start and in the "Start Search" field type CMD.
The search should find the cmd.exe program. Please right click on that program and select "Run as Administrator" to load up the command window.
Please attach your tracert.txt to your reply for further analysis.

Thanks Triant,

The very first thing to try is to powercycle your networking equipment. Please be sure to follow the instructions exactly as written (you may want to print or write them down, as you'll be shutting down your computer).

    1. Turn off your computer.
    2. Unplug your router you have from the wall.
    3. Unplug the modem from the wall and ensure that all the lights go out. Some modems have a battery backup--if the lights do not go out after unplugging it, then you will need to remove the battery from the modem as well.
    4. Wait two minutes.
    5. Plug the modem into the wall (and reinsert battery if needed).
    6. Wait one minute.
    7. Plug the router back into the wall.
    8. Wait one minute.
    9. Turn on the computer.

Network adapter:Intel(R) 82567V-2 Gigabit Network Connection, Driver Version:10.0.2.2
It looks like your drivers are outdated. Check your computer manufacturer's website to see if there are updated ones. Alternatively, you can try going to Intel's website and download the drivers from there: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Ethernet+Components&ProductLine=Ethernet+Controllers&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+82567+Gigabit+Ethernet+Controller

If that doesn't help, navigate to the World of Warcraft folder on your computer. Make sure the game is not running while you are doing this. Once in the folder, delete the Cache, Interface, and WTF folders.

After doing that, please double-click on the icon labeled 'Repair' and run the Repair Tool.

After that, adjust the checksum offloading and speed duplexing options on your NIC. Instructions on this can be found in Step 5. at http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=21010

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Triant,

Also try UN-checking the "Optimize Network for Speed" box in the Options>Network menu in-game.
