Forum Moderation Abuse

is it possible to report mods of a certain forum? our realm forums have been completely gutted. several longstanding forum contributors have been permanently banned and all their posts deleted, when none of the posts contained any sort of violation. meanwhile, in response to the community's outrage at the unfair bans, a tongue and cheek post about proper forum moderation (of which the user was expecting a ban) was stickied. i can't tell if this is the forum moderator's idea of a joke, insult, or the person actually has no idea what they're doing.

not to mention, while most of the meaningful posts between longstanding contributors are being deleted, nothing is being done about the obvious troll posts that keep popping up. frankly, i find it ridiculous that a large thread with healthy discussion about something so benign as medical school applications gets deleted and users receive bans, but threads containing links to youtube videos featuring a baby with down syndrome continue to thrive.

repeated requests for the moderator to explain themselves have only resulted in deletion/bans.

I would sincerely encourage you and your realm mates to refrain from posting threads demanding responses from our Forum Moderation staff, Zaigaz. That is not the appropriate avenue to pursue and may lead to further action. There are forms of recourse available, though. :)

If you like to inquire about moderation, [email protected] is the proper venue. You can also request posts to be stickied through this address, as well as dispute any prior forum penalties received. If you would like to comment on Forum Moderation in general, though, (e.g. provide feedback) [email protected] is your best bet.

Please note that emails sent to either of these addresses are not guaranteed a response, but that our Forum Moderation staff reviews all emails received.

Q u o t e:
Odd, this address was never mentioned to me when I had an issue.
.....possibly the reason why the issue still exists?

I guess the blue steering me in the wrong direction should get a special mention when I send the mail in.

Nobully, if you wish to inquire about or simply dispute a forum penalty (or, in your case, ask about missing posts) the proper address to email is [email protected]. On the flip side, to provide feedback for representatives within this forum, as well as our In-Game Support staff, [email protected] is the appropriate avenue to pursue. I know that's a lot of addresses to balance, so you may want to bookmark this thread: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=24702231246&sid=1

With that said, I fear I was unable to find any information as to why your posting history is unavailable before a certain date. There are no records which I am able to access that show that your history was removed by a member of our Moderation staff. =/

But yet, there is a 9 page OT thread on the first page in here that is a Sermon on Love and Ethics...

What part of that is about Warcraft. And it has a blue post in it

Irony

If you're referring to the post in this forum, Akoto—the Customer Service Forum—then I'm not sure how irony comes into play. We permit one off-topic thread, and the reasons for it are manifold. What applies in this forum, though, doesn't always carry over to other forums. This is why it's a good idea to read any and all posted rules in a forum before you begin contributing.

For those of you who may be curious about why an off-topic thread is allowed in this forum at this time, let me try to provide some clarity:

Humans, by nature, tend to deviate when speaking about a specific topic; they tangent. We see it in the World of Warcraft forums all the time: a post will begin on one topic and then, at the time of its conclusion, the post will be about something completely different. By allowing an off-topic thread to exist within this forum, we moderators are able to isolate those tangential conversations—conversations that might otherwise occur in threads where players are seeking assistance—to a single location. It helps keeps all the ducks in better rows, so to speak.

In the same vein, we want to get to know our players better. We work towards this by not only getting into the nitty-gritty of issue resolution, but also by speaking openly about every day topics (games, movies, food, etc). We don't want to let latter interrupt the former, though, so we try to keep the more casual talk out of topics that deal with inquiries, service requests, and the like. :)

Alright, I'm going to nip this one in the bud. Akoto, Flail, Kesandra, Habdek, I'm going to ask that you please try not to take to this conversation too off-course. If you disagree with another, I'm cool with that; life would be pretty boring if we didn't have disagreements. Just make sure that you're not attacking one another. If you're concerned about a post, just tap the biohazard button and I'll look into your reports. :)

Syndri I think it's great that there is an OT thread(s) allowed to handle the tangential conversations. Everytime I have read an OT thread it is full of humor and fun.

I was only pointing out that for people to tell the OP without reservation or qualification thats posts must be only about Warcraft isn't necessarily accurate to the degree that some forum moderators may allow OT threads. Then I get ganged up on by others. It is easy for the common posters in this forum to tell people that come here how they are doing things wrong or whatever. But when someone points out that their information isn't always entirely correct, they attack.

In this case, I think the inclusion of the word "irony" may have detracted from your point. You might have intended that word to mean something completely different; however, it's inclusion in the context of your post made it seem like you were simply wishing to contradict another person, perhaps at the expense of the off-topic thread within this forum.

I'm glad you took the time to clarify, though. I really appreciate it. Further explanation can often remedy even the most egregious of misunderstandings. :)

Q u o t e:
Are there any specific rules about when off-topic threads are and are not allowed on Realm Forums? The only mention I see in the Forum CoC is about off-topic posts within threads (ie. "making off topic posts that ruin the thread"). Since some off-topic threads seem to be acceptable (or at least are not removed from the realm forums) and others are not, it would be useful to have some guidance on this matter. As you say, getting to know other players better seems to be a worthwhile goal, and it seems that is a natural role for the realm forums.

That would be something I'd encourage you to write [email protected] about, Laelia. I'm not aware of the specifics, so inquiring with our Forum Moderation staff specifically (those who moderate the realm forums) would be best course of action. :)
