Guest Pass key uses?

My brother use to a WoW account but he canceled the payment plan for it. Now he is thinking of playing once again but he wants to try it before actually buying a whole month for it. Can he use a guest pass key to get a free 10 days to sample the game on his old account again or would he have to make a complete new account to try it?

To use a Scroll of Resurrection the account must be inactive for 90+ days on accounts that have not been upgraded to Wrath of the Lich King.
