Battle.net Account Merge

I emailed Blizzard support about an issue regarding Refer a Friend. I said in the email that I had sent a Refer a Friend invitation, and then accepted it on the same computer forgetting to log out of my normal account. Even though it said nowhere in the email that it would automatically merge to an account if it was still logged in (in fact in the email it said specifically that merging might require me to go out of my way to do a few extra steps), I clicked on the link that was supposed to help me make an account, and instead it just invented it's own brand new account without my permission that came pre-merged to my Battle.net account.

This makes no sense, since if I wanted my friend to play I most certainly do not want to give them my own Battle.net account information for them to play, giving them access to my own account as well. I don't want this Refer a Friend account merged to my own. Even if I just send out a new invitation and do it after making sure I log out, I still have this stupid account merged to my real account and I think it's a pain.

One thing I'd really like to know is why something *permanent* like merging an account to a Battle.net account can be done by accident without it saying what it was going to do, and without any notification or confirmation that it is in fact what I want to do. Accounts get stolen this way. I should at least have to verify the merge through accessing my email account that I did in fact perform that request. But that's beside the point.

Anyway, I don't want this merged, so I emailed Support in hopes of getting them unmerged. I waited a few days to get an email back, and when I finally did, it was obvious to me that no attempt to even read my email or even the SUBJECT of the email had been done. I got an email back telling me how I can make sure my Veteran/Recruit accounts are linked so I can get the rewards of being linked. I guess I can say that merge and link can be misunderstood, but I must have said at least twice in the email that it was related to the new WoW account being under the same Battle.net address as my main account.

I don't know how much more specific I can possibly be, and it's frustrating to have to send another email that may or may not actually be read thoroughly enough to get a basic point across.

I'm posting here instead in hopes of a faster reply on what I can do to unmerge the new WoW account from my Battle.net one. I've seen a few posts about this in the forums with the same problem with Refer a Friend automatically merging to a logged in account - maybe a change to the wording of the email it sends would help prevent this customer service problem in the future.

I apologize for the misunderstanding that must have obviously taken place, Flashcat. I would like to start off by stating that the issue you ran into when trying to create a WoW account on an alternate Battle.net account, and by using the link provided within the invitation itself ending up with a second account on your own Battle.net account, is something we are aware of and have been looking into different solutions to the overall issue. It is simply a matter of time before we get what we feel is the best solution out there, and help avoid these situations in the future.

I understand you are upset about the unwanted account linked on your Battle.net account, and it is not our intentions that you should share your account information and have someone else logging into an alternate account located on your Battle.net account. I will get to the secondary account in a moment, so please bear with me, first let’s deal with your Recruit-a-Friend desires. If you still like to move forward with the RaF program, I would recommend that you send your friend an invitation anew. Be sure to log out of your own Battle.net account this time, to avoid the past mistake, and have your friend create their account. This should be an all new RaF invitation, and a brand new WoW account for your friend (be it on a preexisting Battle.net account or a newly created one).

Now, as for your extra, unwanted account: I would be happy to have that taken care of for you, but I want to make sure I get the right account. It would be a shame to leave you without an account you potentially wish to play on. That being said, the account that you would like me to take away is the WoW1 account located on the same Battle.net account that you are posting from at this time, correct?

Seeing as how the account tied to this Battle.net account that you are posting from was created 05-10-2010 I initially thought that it was the account in question. Upon seeing a level 12 paladin on Lothar, I was not comfortable with taking liberties or making assumptions and decided it was indeed best to wait on your approval.

Let me know if this is indeed the account in question, and I will do what I can to assist you with the removal of the unwanted account, Flashcat.
