Rocket Mount (FAQ and Blue posts contradict)

I'm looking to redeem the refer a friend account, but am finding that there is conflicting information regarding my situation.

* RAF account was created MORE than 90 days ago, thus the 90 day link is broken.
* RAF account was upgraded to classic, but no game time was purchased, so only the free month was used.

A blue post says that

Veteran accounts will remain eligible for Recruit-A-Friend subscription rewards even after the 90-day account link expires. This means if an inactive recruit account resubscribes and then purchases 60 days of game play, the veteran account will still be able to redeem the 30-day game credit and in-game mount.

The RAF FAQ though directly contradicts this, saying :

Only linked veteran accounts are eligible for our promotional X-53 Touring Rocket. Each eligible veteran account will qualify for this item once a recruit account upgrades to a retail version of World of Warcraft and purchases 60 days of game time.

So which is correct? The FAQ clearly states that only linked accounts are eligible while the blue post indicates that the link does not affect eligibility. Would really appreciate a blue post on this.
