Bought a wrong region Celestial Steed code

Having previously purchased a Pandaren Monk using my US battle.net account, and given the code to my mother (who has an EU battle.net account), I assumed (it seems wrongfully so) that I would be able to do the same with the Celestial Steed.

Having then gifted it to her, she was unable to use it. Is it possible for one of the following to occur:

1) That the US code be exchanged for an EU code,
2) That the US code be refunded, and I be able to purchase an EU code with my US Battle.net account? I don't want to have to create another battle.net account just to be able to use the EU store.
