Pending payment on Name change?

As the story goes I got the idea to change my name.

Logged into the website just fine, found my way to the name-change service.

Entered in my CC information and thought it had gone through.

To my dismay I looked down at my blackberry and retrieved this message,

Q u o t e:
This is an automated notification. The payment method used for your Paid Character Name Change on your World of Warcraft account [xxxxxxxx] could not be processed successfully by our system.

As a result, your Paid Character Name Change has NOT yet been completed, and your character is still locked from play.

Payment method: CreditCard
Last four Digits: XXXX
Result code: 5

If you continue to have issues adding your payment method to your account, we recommend checking to make sure:
- You have sufficient funds available for the Paid Character Name Change ($10 plus applicable taxes).
- Your payment method is not blocked or restricted from online charges or website usage.

I know my credit card enough to know I have money and that I've not changed the website settings to it.

The website says I have a payment pending but no pending name change on the transaction page of the site.

Furthermore, my character, when I try to log in on it, gives me this message, "you cannot log in until the character process you recently initiated is complete".

TLDR; Will I have to re-enter my CC information when all is settled, or do I just wait for the payment to go through? I've tried about 3-4 times and I don't want my CC company to freak out about the constant attempts.

I am terribly sorry you've had this issue, Bepaladin. I'm a bit limited on exactly how deep I can see into this type of issue, but from what I can see, you seem to be right on target as to what happened, payment for some reason was declined.

Why, that I can't tell.

You do NOT want to keep submitting this, that can generate multiple pending charges. While no funds would actually move, your available credit or funds can be reduced until the pending charges clear. Some credit cards will also flag if multiple Internet submissions are made, something else to try to avoid :)

My best suggestion at this point would be to give Billing a call when you can. It can be a little challenging to get into the queue, but please keep trying. Billing should be able to shed more light on this and assist.

Should I just cancel the name change then? As this seems futile to wait for something that won't even go through?

Does it present you with that option, Bepaladin? I'm not entirely sure the stage this one is at it will be available..

This does look 'complete', just awaiting payment. You could try to cancel if that option is open to you.

No, I own my own credit card and I know the settings attached to it :[

I hesitate suggesting that until you find out what happened, Bepaladin.

Please see my comments above about multiple pending charges.

I'd still recommend either talking to Billing to find out more on why this happened, or contacting your financial institution to see if they declined payment. You might also want to check to see if you have generated multiple pendings already and what your available credit line is.

Thanks a ton Or, I really appreciate you taking the time to assist me.

As per multiple pendings, I know I have a pretty big credit limit, but since I canceled the name change, the money will be refunded in a few days?

Should yes, actually - pendings don't require a 'refund' - it's just a matter of no charge coming through to match up and them dropping off. How long that takes is actually set by the rules of your financial institution.

3-5 days is pretty normal, but that can vary widely.
