CATACLYSM, sounds good, lags hard

cataclysm sounds all fine and dandy, but this thread is not about is story/gameplay, as much as the ability to even play it.

One of the things i liked about wow is it wasnt super high on graphics. it didnt need graphics to be an amazing game, unlike guild wars and some other mmo's. You dont really need an amazing computer to run world of warcraft.

however, in cataclysm, they are pushing the graphics/visuals. If you have a doghouse/alienware computer this is great for you, but i dont have an ultra great computer, its probably on par with the average player.

anyway, i dont want to lag in order to play the game. I know i can turn resolution down, but then i end up with a choppy pixely version of the original game.

Note to blizzard: your graphics are perfectly fine as they are, not a single person have i heard push for better graphics. You have built a monster, that unlike most games, needs nothing involved with major graphics to be a groundbreaking game.

take console games, for example. If a game has bad graphics, it is generally considered a "bad game". i cant tell you the times iv heard this conversation

"how is that new xbox/ps3 game"
"its horrible, i cant stand it"
"Why's that"
"the graphics are bad"

Most console gamers dont even take into consideration gameplay/story untill it pases the graphics checklist. if it passes, then they examen the other aspects of the actual game. On the other hand, if it dosnt pass the amazing graphics test, it is thrown out and considered a "bad game" right off the bat.

Blizzard, please know your game is great as it is, i would much rather have you spend your time on gameplay/next patch/new instances/class balance than higher graphics.

Long story short: dont fix whats not broken blizz, have you heard anyone complain the graphics arnt good enough?

We haven't yet released minimum system requirements for Cataclysm. That said, we do plan on making some graphical improvements, but we're always of the philosophy that gameplay and accessibility are more important than the most high-tech graphics available today. We want to keep a very broad audience, and that requires boosting graphics by very reasonable amounts as the years go by.

Q u o t e:

so, what you're saying is.if you're playing now, odds are the cata system requirements wont push you over the edge to where your computer cant?

I'm saying that the rate at which we make graphical upgrades to World of Warcraft is way behind the curve of the rate at which technology is advancing, and prices on computers more than capable of running World of Warcraft are dropping.
