Recruit a friend not working

The account was on my refer a friend link. I thought all was wellâ€¦. But now it says that the account has expired.. on my refer a friend status page thingy.
I was never able to get the level up thing to work is there any way I can get this to work?? that would be really nice to add a couple of levels.. I originally reffered them and they signed up for trial 1-1-10 but they did not sign up for normal account right at the end of the 10 day trial she had to wait because of personal issues..
I know for a fact it is not expired as I paid for the account for her..
I have another friend that is going to start playing soon and I would like to get both of the refer a friend mounts if possible.. I browsed around on the fourms and I was unable to find the same issue.
Am I doing something wrong or is it just because she did not sign up for a normal account right at the end of the trial?
Any information would be greatly appreciated..

Hey there, Crack.

Can you tell me what is displayed next to your friend's name on the Rewards section of the Recruit-a-Friend page (https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/recruit-a-friend.html?tab=rewards#referralstatus)?

Also, when did your friend upgrade the account in question? It sounds like the account may not be expired, but the link between the two accounts has expired as a full 90 days have passed since the account was created.

Sadly, it looks as if when this account was first created it was created without using the Recruit-a-Friend key contained within the RAF e-mail. It is correct. Unfortunately, that is not the account that she's been playing. It seems that the account was created, but no characters were ever made. :(
