Recurite a friend question

OK I was trying to recurite a friend over the weekend because they wanted to try the game out. From my account managment it was saysing that the recrute request went through succssefully. However my friend was not getting the emails. I looked in his spam mail also. We tried both email accounts that he had and neither worked. So I ended up trying to have it send to myself and then forwarded him the request. But not thinking about it to well this did not link our accounts to get the bonuses that you get. Is there anyway to correct this so my account is linked to his? Is it even possible to start over if he made a new gmail account? I thought I read that the trial can only be setup one time.
