Contact our Billing Department to determine if any game time was recently added to your account. If not, tell him that you tried the code, saw that it didn't work, and then were told by our Billing Department that no game time was added to your account and that he should contact them if he'd like to inquire further about the code. Also, please be sure to let him know that selling game time codes for in-game gold is a violation of our policies and can result in actions including account closure, so he may want to avoid participating in such transactions moving forward (as would you). If gold changed hands, please feel free to open an in-game petition to notify our Game Master staff so that we may investigate this further.
