Translation: “We heard a rumor about this thing called “Protribution (and Prot/Holy)” was actually defeating our best efforts to gimp the hell out of paladins…so we had to nerfbatwhack it.”
Quote: “Right now the successes of the Retribution paladin in PvP seem to be reduced to either doing decent burst damage, or just being good at staying alive.”
Translation: “We have no idea wtf we are talking about, but everyone else seems to be QQing about how OP’d ret is, so we had to nerfbatwhack it, too.”
First things first. How many times does your player base have to tell you NOT to base an entire aspect of a class around friggin’ PVP!
Secondly, you tried to trick us into thinking that “bursty” damage was a good gimmick…but it FAILS. So we get a 10-sec burst of pewpew, and an about 15 seconds of downtime before we can do anything again…guess what? Our enemies are using that time to either heal, CC, or continue to put STEADY dps on us, and WE don’t get the “non-burst” break periods they do. Doing 12K damage in 10 seconds and then NOTHING for 15 seconds is NOT equivalent to doing a steady output of 12K dps over 25 seconds (especially since you already mentioned that you are gimping our ability to heal/defend ourselves in combat in the class preview notes).
Thirdly…LOL @ our ability to “stay alive” in combat….you have done nothing but force steady “survival” nerfs down our throats since your pet project, the DK, came out in WoTLK. Adding more instances of forebearance; ninja-nerfing our stam talents when you thought we weren’t looking…and the list goes on and on…

Translation: “To hell with what our players have been begging for…we gonna give em a BIGGER heal with a LONGER cast time, and STILL require that they stand still in order to be able to heal anyone.”
Great. With that and your hinted-at nerfs to Beacon, our entire raid desirability just went right down the toilet. You couldn’t just give us a competitive HoT or group heal, could you? No, you keep forcing lame-ass gimmicks down our throats…first it was Beacon, and we took the bait for a while. Then, instead of giving us a REAL group heal, you made us waste a glyph on a gimpy random version that heals for maybe 900 per target. Now your giving us a lame PBAOE heal as another gimmick..its like instead of actually fixing our class, you keep throwing shiny new gimmicks at us to distract us for 3-4 months at a time

Great. The ONE bone you threw us in wotlk to as a laughable effort to make us competive healers is now going to get half of its usefulness gimped or totally removed.

LoLwut? So now to be an effective healer we have to stand right in the middle of any prospective raid damage to be able to heal anyone else taking the damage? This ability had better: A. Heal the paladin as well to keep him from faceplanting in the middle of a boss AoE phase, or B. have a range of about 60, and operate on the same basics as a lightwell, just without the need to be clicked

Umm…isn’t this what critical effects are supposed to do ANYWAYS? So basically “gratz pallies, we will give you an ‘ability’ that lets you do something every other class already does during normal game mechanics kkthxbai”
Quote: “Block Amount: We want to keep the kit of the paladin as a tank who blocks a lot.”
Wow. Turbo slap to the face here, since it is universally agreed that block is the worst mitigation stat EVER. Not to mention that this “change” is happening at the exact time you remove shield block rating/value from the game entirely. Why don’t you just come out and say “we want pallies to go back to being the gimpest tanks in the game, ergo they are going to rely on the mitigation stat that will have them still taking the most damage and being the biggest healing liability in a group/raid”
All in all, i see a complete de-masculating of the paladin class for all of the cataclysm expansion...then maybe 2 years from now blizz will give us a new "gimmick" ability like they did with ret or Beacon and we will be "ZOMG OP NURF!!11one1!" for like, 3 months ago, and everything will come full cycle again, ad nauseum.
