Guild Experience -- Hurting 10 player guilds?

Based on the information contained here, there’s a bit of a problem: This massively disadvantages 10p raiding guilds. If you look at our guild, you’ll see there are 10 players rank 4 or higher. Everyone else is either an alt or a rarely playing friend.

Now I understand that 10p guilds aren’t your focus: so be it (though I really think you’re missing a huge market segment here). But we already get short shrift when it comes to in-game gear. This happens in lots of ways, from itemization* to loot opportunities. 25p guilds get to do at least 2 10p runs in addition to 25p runs, and this provides incremental upgrades. Additionally, 25p guilds functionally have more opportunities to learn a fight: once in 10p mode and again in 25p mode, where mechanics are often fairly similar. Lastly, 25p guilds have an advantage in that 25p gear makes 10p content substantially easier. So the deck is already stacked in favor of 25p guilds in a lot of important ways. And that’s fine: it is what it is, there can be advantages in the other direction, too: our 9 hours of raid time is only spent on 10p encounters, whereas 25p guilds have 10p content “in addition” to their 25p content. But what is a cost to them (more time) has a corresponding benefit (better gear).

But the mechanism you’ve laid out for guild progress could radically privilege 25p guilds in ways that are hugely unnecessary.

Please work to make sure guilds that are progressing well have access to all of the benefits and aren’t hurt simply because they have 10 or 11 active members instead of 29 or 30.

Skill > Grind, please.

*I’ve long maintained that 25p normal should be “heroic” versions of 10p normal, and 10p heroic should be what is currently 25p normal. Otherwise there’s functionally no way for some players to access gear stat alignment that is only available in 25 player environments.

We have a lot of great changes in mind for improving upon the raiding experience and badge system in Cataclysm for those who prefer one raid size over another. I believe, based on the concerns expressed in your post, you'll find many of the changes to be quite satisfying, Hearthattack. We look forward to sharing them with you in the near future. :)
