Insufficient disk space my arse

I had 1.4 GB of HD space free when I tried to start the 4.1 install. It said insufficient disk space. I removed a 300-ish MB program, same problem. Another similar program- at this point I'm at 1.93 GB free- same problem. Finally I uninstalled Portal 2, got to 11.7 GB free, and the process took.

Now I'm looking at the progress bar on the WoW launcher and it says 104 MB of DL needed.

Seriously? I realize there are often temp files involved with installing stuff that end up removed, but when I have fifteen times the required disk space free that should be plenty. I have plenty of space to turn around and install all the programs I deleted; seems to me that means I shouldn't have had to do it in the first place.

If someone has a solid explanation for this, I'm all ears.
