Class Homogenization in Cataclysm

With the three class previews shown today, it does seem like more classes are going to be given more abilities that other classes currently possess.

For example, Warlocks being given a Focus Magic type buff, shammies and priests being given better direct healing spells which will presumably bring them closer to Pallies as MT Healers.
Resto Shammies getting a tranquility type spell with Healing Rain.
Elemental Shamans getting an Earthquake ability to serve as a consistent AoE like Mages/Locks have with Blizzard/Rain of Fire, etc.

I'm not really complaining per say, I just have a genuine concern that some of these changes may make the classes feel too similar.

I don't think there's anything wrong in having niches for classes to fill. Not every class of the same role (tank/heals/dps) needs to have similar abilities and be on par of every other class of the same role in every situation.

Is bringing all the classes closer together so that ones of the same role have basically copies of one another's abilities really necessary????

We definitely want to make sure each class has its own unique feel. That's something we've always believed strongly and will ensure it remains true in Cataclysm. Obviously only three of the ten previews have been released thus far -- and none of these changes are set in stone yet -- but we do welcome the continued feedback as we get further along in this class preview process. :)
