Blackmailing botters against TOS?

I know of over a dozen botters on my server.

I don't care to report them because they don't affect me.

I had an idea, though, that would interest me in reporting them.

Send them a letter like this...

Q u o t e:
I want 5000g in the mail or your name will remain on the list of over a dozen other botters like yourself on my ticket being reported.

This will be the one and only time I charge this particular character. I would advise ignoring your pride and act immediately before my ticket goes through.

Please send the gold from this character so I know who to remove from the list.

PS: If you do not send the gold I assume you have quit botting. I will find your character and report without warning if u r.

Would this be against TOS? I read the TOS on harassment and couldn't find anything that even vaguely described something like this.

PS: I would not take the names off my list regardless of payment.

Before I proceed with a response, I just want to be absolutely sure that you're actually asking this question with a serious mindset.

Really?

So before you answer me you're going to set me up with this post for a sarcastic answer to attempt to humiliate me.

Yes, I'm serious.

No attempt to humiliate you, just making sure you're not trolling.

Okay, so extortion can represent a violation of our scamming policy, though every such case is so individual that each is measured against its own circumstances. In particular, the In-Game Support Department is not a 'stick' to be wielded to enforce a threat. Attempting to blackmail or extort another player is enough on its own to potentially excite our interest; involving our staff in such a scam is nearly certain to do so.

For those reasons alone, it's a bad idea.

More than that, botting and similar activities aren't good for World of Warcraft as a whole. While I can't force you to report exploitative behavior, I would hope that you would opt to do so for the health of the game at large. We can't force our players to issue a report, but we certainly hope for them.

I hope that helps your decision making process moving forward?

Q u o t e:
And to shut them down at the same time. It would be so satisfying.

We definitely want to shut down botters and other exploiters as well, and your reports are a valuable part of our overall effort to do so.
