Battle Ground hacks

I have noticed in the recent months some strainge occurrences while playing in battle grounds. Being disconected at st specific times durrung pvp, locking up opon attacking a player, or recently being randomly dropped from the BG while in combat, particularly when the win was turned to our favor or when a player I was attacking just died. Has there been some hack brought into the game since I've been away? Just wondering if my returning may have been a mistake!

I've not heard of a thing another player can do to cause this, Wild.

That said, it IS entirely possible something is causing it in specific situations, and the first thing I'd question is addons.

An outdated or misbehaving addon can indeed do this.

If you are running any (or have run any since you last reset your UI), I'd recommend trying a full reset UI - NOT adding any addons back in to test to see if this still happens. That's an incredibly valuable trouble-shooting step even if it doesn't seem to have any impact on the issue.

To do a full reset UI, you will want to save your addons in another spot if you wish to preserve them.

Then rename/delete or move your WTF, Cache and Interface folders while WoW is shutdown. Reboot your system.

Note, if you are running Vista make sure your permissions are set so it does not undo your changes.

More detailed instructions for different operating systems, including Macs are here.

There are certain addons that can cause this more than others - folks that have this happen in raids it can be for the same reasons. There are a few that even if someone in your guild is running them and you aren't - can cause this simply from the glut of information they poll.

I recommend running no more than absolutely the bare minimum you feel you simply cannot do without in most cases in either pvp or pve raiding.

I recently was in a WG where a hunter on the opposing faction was melee hitting my mage but was out of range for any of my spells at the same time. I unfortunately didnt get the characters name to report them but this type of thing has been happening more and more from my own personal observations. Any time you suspect another player of using a hack or botting program, just report them and leave it at that. They will be investigated and actioned if found to be using any hacks or exploits in any way. You will not be told what happens to them anyways so dont worry about it.

Could you have been out of sync, Flats?

I don't pvp much - but I've had that happen on occasion in pve with creatures. If your client thinks two opponents are in one place, it's going to display that way - the realm knows differently, and the other person may be displaying properly as well.

Same principle as killing a creature and being told it's too far away to loot, relog - and all of a sudden the body is a good distance away.

Nope Orlyia, that was the first thing i tested which is why I missed getting the character name. It was single combat with the hunter and his pet but he was rubber banding back and forth extremely fast hitting me for melee damage while every single spell was telling me he was out of range.

Hmm, rubber banding might be a sign of something hinky - yeah, please do report those if you can find a name.

Usually desync'd - it just shows them farther away than they are.
