No no no, that would be much too simple.
Let's have a base unit, that divides into 12 smaller other base units. Those smaller base units will commonly be divided into any fraction with a base power of two, but we won't have names for those.
Then let's have another unit, that's 3 times the larger of the previous units. And another thats twice that for use in water, but only for depth. And another that's 110 times the previous one, but this one is for horse races.
Then, we'll have one 8 times that again, for general geographic distances, and one approximately 9.2 times the horse race one, but based on a metric that actually changes depending on where on the Earth you're actually measuring. This one will be for water as well, but used for things other than depth. In fact, we're going to base speed over water on it.
