"Compensation" for downtime? Don't be fooled

Was playing in the game when I got the following fake whisper from a character whose name claimed they were from the "Blizzard team". Obviously reported as spam, but thought I might try to warn anyone browsing the forums about compensation...

"Dear players, because the network of World of Warcraft had broken off, Blizzard decided to give each player certain compensation. Please visit <fake website> and receive compensation for goods."

Though it is obviously a fake, I had never seen this type of message before and suspect that maybe the scammers are trying to trick players in the light of recent downtime and emergency maintenance that some servers have had.

So don't fall for it. :)

They offer all sorts of things, Serisyna.

Unicorns, free trial mounts, time - who knows what :)

Thankfully, most are in such broken English (like your example) folks spot them immediately - but some aren't.

If we EVER message ingame, we'll have a blue Blizzard logo by our name - and our chat pops up in a different window.

And yes, report spam immediately and these will be tended to. Thanks!

Q u o t e:
Is it a waste of time to put these people on ignore list or will it help out?

Right click their name and use Report Spam - that puts them on a temp ignore AND reports them at the same time.
