Sigh, is it just me or was the Battle.net Authenticator a bad idea.. Alot of people are getting their account authenticated for no reason... is it possible to remove this now without going through the painful phone calls etc.. because I have tried calling the International line (949) 955-0283 and it keeps saying the service is temporarily disconnected.

The following response was written by one of our new teammates. Because they are still in training and do not yet possess a forum account of their own, they shall be posting via proxy through me.

If an Authenticator has been added to your account without your permission, this is likely the result of an account compromise. Often, third parties will attach malicious Authenticators to accounts they have gained access to in order to prolong the amount of time they have to perform their nefarious deeds. I would advise reviewing the following threads, particularly this section from our Account Compromise Info Center sticky:

6.3 An Authenticator Was Added to My Account!

In some circumstances, malicious parties may add an Authenticator to an account to prevent access to anyone who does not posses the Authenticator. Please contact our Billing and Account Service Department to have the Authenticator removed from the account. Our Billing Representatives can be reached via phone using one of the following numbers:

If it is difficult for you to call internationally, you may consider using Voice Over IP (VOIP) software to make the call from a computer at little to no cost to you. This can make international dialing much easier.

Once you have secured your computer and recovered the account, create a petition in-game or send an email to wowgm@blizzard.com explaining the situation. This will allow us to review the account for damages done as a result of the compromise. While I can offer no guarantees, we do work diligently to help players recover from such issues, making any possible restorations.
Also, if you have not already, you may look into attaching an Authenticator of your own to the account. Doing so not only increases the account’s security, but can net you a neat in-game pet. An Authenticator is one of many steps to take to help ensure your account remains free of future compromise.
