Our stance, Kameloria, is that "ninja looting" is not currently possible within this game. Ninja looting is a term that generally refers to taking an item that the person has no right to.
Our Developers put a great deal of thought and work into the looting mechanics for this game. They introduced many protections for players so they can protect themselves and govern how loot will be distributed.
When you enter into a party/raid you are allowing the leader of that group to determine a few things about its make up. You are allowing them to determine who joins you in the group, who remains in the group (i.e. the power to kick) and how loot is distributed.
There are several options for loot distribution. There is
Group Loot, which allows anyone in the group to roll need or greed on items of a specific quality, highest roll wins. There is
Need before Greed which only allows you to roll Need on items of a specific quality that you can potentially use, highest roll wins.
In both cases a Need roll will count before a Greed roll.
There is
Free for All, which speaks for itself and
Round Robin which simply awards items on a turn basis.
Finally there is the
Master Loot system. Just like entering into a group where you are allowing the Party/Raid Leader to make certain determinations for you, if this looting method is used you are allowing the Master Looter to determine how loot will be distributed.
What you roll using the /roll command is virtually irrelevant as it is the Master Looter who makes the final determination. We support, Kameloria, that players educate themselves on the different looting mechanics and use the one that makes the most sense for their situation. If you are not in a group with people that you trust to make a fair and just looting decision, don't use that method. If the Raid/Party leader is not willing to use a different method, you may want to consider other grouping options.
It should be noted that in certain situations where we believe a scam has taken place we may become involved. The bottom line though is that you should be using a looting method that you believe suits the situation at hand.
If you wish to see a change to our policies or looting options you are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum where our Developers, Community Managers and policy makers can review it.
