As it stands right now, most mages buff the raid with amplify in a very limited number of cases. Generally, that is limited to physical damage-only fights like Saurfang, where the drawback is negated and it basically translates to +healing. Especially in WotLK world where damage is spikey and raidwide, the healing benefit doesn't seem to be worth the increased damage taken on most fights because the "buff" makes the toon more likely to die before healing is received.
Add to this the fact that the buff is a 10 minute, individual only buff and a vestige from vanilla that was never updated, and its no wonder nobody uses it. Its so annoying that most mages are not likely to cast it 25 times even on fights like saurfang where there's no drawback.
Dampen magic, in my experience, is never used. I can't remember the last time i tried to use it.
I always liked the concept of the spells, but they're just not much fun or interesting. I'm wondering if other mages agree?
And at the very least, GC, can you make them 1 hour buffs and raidwide?
