My wife was banned for economy abuse...

So my wife started playing in early January with me and together we reached level 37 before getting side tracked watching all 5 seasons of Lost. She loves her character and enjoys the professions and the fun/goofy stuff at holidays (she thought the 5-year Mohawks were hilarious).

Yesterday, she received an email from Blizzard stating that they were closing her account for abuse of the economy. We both know that she has done no such thing, and we also know that we are the only ones who know how to access her account. We just dropped the money for all of the expansions last month, so it's sad that Blizzard would make such a huge mistake and jeapordize my wife's enjoyment of the game (I tried for years to get her to play, and she just now started loving it).

How do I refute these claims effectively? I already sent an email asking for the logs of wrong doing and stating that my wife has done nothing wrong, but I don't know how long that will take. Also, does anyone have any ideas as to why exactly this would happen. We barely logged in for the past month while we were catching up on shows, but we just played a few days ago and didn't notice anything sketchy. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The emails that were linked in this thread appeared legitimate actually, particularly as they did not request that the recipient 'confirm' any information via one of the provided links. Further information on how to identify phishing emails can be found here:

If an unauthorized Authenticator has been attached to your account, it is pretty safe to assume that your account has been compromised.

First, before anything else happens, it is very important that you please ensure that your computer is secure. You may find the following thread contains quite useful information for this purpose, as does the link in my signature:

** Computer Security Recommendations **

After you've done all that, it's time to report the compromise and recover your account.

This thread covers the majority of the pertinent information related to an account compromise, including how to recover your account, how to report the compromise, as well as some of the complications that can occur:

After your computer is secure and your account has been recovered, it is also important to change your account password, as well as the password to your registered email address. Email addresses, such as those posted to guild websites, can be targets for phishing attempts. After you regain access to your account, it might be prudent to create a new email address that you use exclusively as the registered email address for your World of Warcraft account. When selecting the username and password for this email address, ensure that none of the information overlaps with any other service you may use (guild websites, Facebook, MySpace, etc). Register this new address to your account and do not use it for anything else: no additional registrations, no guild websites, no newsletter sign-ups, et al.

A Blizzard Authenticator can bring not only a valuable layer of added security for your account, but peace of mind as well.
You can find out more about the Authenticator via this FAQ, the second link leads to the Blizzard store where you can purchase an Authenticator of your own:

You can also check the following sites to see if your wireless provider and mobile device are compatible with our free Mobile Authenticator, as well as read our FAQ on the subject:

If your account was suspended due to actions taken while your account was compromised, it may be necessary to dispute the account action by contacting our Account Administration department via email at [email protected]. You can also report the compromise itself via this address. Be sure that any contact with Account Administration occurs exclusively from the email address registered to your account.

Good luck!
