Upgrading to wrath of the lich king

i have the disk's for the original game and the burning crusade but i was lent burning crusade from a friend

do i need to use the key from burning crusade before i can use the key for wrath of the lich king?

i would like to know because i dont want to buy wrath of the lich king if i can't even play it because i didn't have a usable key from trhe burning crusade

The account would indeed need to be upgraded to the Burning Crusades using a valid/unused authentication key before it would be eligible for an upgrade to the Wrath of the Lich King, Kamelie.
