How Can You Compete?

How does one compete with individuals who play 8 hours a day? I have my own business and I'm married, yet I enjoy playing wow. I try running raids and pvping with my main toon, but my gear is just not up to par with those who play nonstop. I get it in between 7-10 hours of wow a week and I would like to stay competitive. But I always feel like im a step behind and I don't want to be unfair to a pug or my guild by asking them to join a new raid because I don't want to hold them down.

Especially pvp. You have to spend hours grinding honor to purchase gear or hours doing heroics that can get you 5 pieces with badges. But even then i'm still behind everyone and I just can't compete. Furthermore, I can't even get a partner because they always look at my gear and say "you don't even have 1k res. No thank you."

Is the idea of being competitive as a casual simply far fetched or is it possible?

This is a rough situation. However, we've made many adjustments, particularly with PvP, that will allow you to stay relatively competitive with those that participate in PvP more frequently. Of course, it wouldn't be fair if you simply attained all of the same items and gear as those players who have been devoting more time to the pursuit of those items. In time, you'll attain all of the items you desire through your own casual play style. You shouldn't be stuck perpetually behind, so long as you work consistently towards your goal.
