Dear Blizzard,

I have faithfully played your game for almost 5 years now. I have greatly enjoyed the ride so far, with it's ups and downs. As I entered your lovely game as of yesterday, my account became compromised. I do not how, who or when caused it or what I did to deserve such a terrible tragedy. However I want to let you know that I do not blame your company in any way, it's just how the cookie crumbles. I realized that everything that I had possessed within your game is now gone. I wanted express my deep sadness, as I worked/toiled very hard to achieve the things within the game.

Now it is all gone. I have submitted a ticket and also got my account back, but I fear that even after they recover my items (if they can) it will never be the same. I ordered an authenticator so I can further lockout my account, but it leaves me wondering if that will be enough?

I also wanted to express to my fellow world of warcrafters how important it is to buy that authenticator. I was stupid and should have done this sooner. I have only myself to blame for that. I guess I always thought that the password I had was enough, that I was above being hacked. (I would never buy gold, or use illegal services it's like game genie, makes the game too easy and boring.)

I've been pondering as to why anyone would want to do this to another person. The only thing I could think of was pure greed, and a lack of consideration for another person. I can only wonder what would have happened if I would've left my account for any longer as to what could have happened.

But I digress. I await your GM staff to assess my losses, and with any luck, return my items to me. From there, I will decide what to do. I don't know if I could bring myself to redo all that work again if my items are not recovered.

Thank you blizzard for the memories, I trust you will continue to provide me with more.

Faithfuly Yours,
Tasa

Hey there, Tasa. :)

I'm very sorry to hear that you've been affected by an account compromise. I'm glad you're remaining positive, though, and are willing to let our staff of Billing representatives, Game Masters, and Character Specialists assist you during the recovery process. We will do all that we absolutely can to get you back into the game and playing the way you want to play as soon as possible.

Submitting a petition was the right thing to do. When your petition is assigned to a Game Master, that Game Master will gather preliminary information related to your compromise and then place your account in our restoration queue. Once your account reaches the front of this queue, your compromise will be investigated fully and we will work to recoup any losses that we are able.

While we will be unable to provide you periodic updates regarding your place in queue or the status of your restoration, we will be happy to contact you once the restoration has concluded. Because this communication will come via email, please ensure that you're able to receive correspondence from our Support departments. This article will walk you through that process: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=21485

Also, now is a great time to really focus on securing your computer, account, and email address. I know that you're open to suggestions, so I recommend checking out the following guide:

Please don't skip any step, as all the information contained therein will help you maintain a strong level of security.

If you've any questions, Tasa, please let me know!

(As noted within the article, please make sure that your antimalware software is always up-to-date prior to initiating any scan and that the WoW launcher is open with gibberish entered into both account name and password fields.)
