In-game account

Server: Bonechewer
Faction: Horde
Character name on the account: Littlejohnny

English speaking customers: Please refer to the start of this mail
Para los clientes españoles: Por favor vayan hasta el fin de este correo electrónico

Account Name: "Edited... Out"

Account Action: 72 Hour Suspension
Reason for Action: Terms of Use Violation -- Exploitative Activity: Abuse of the Economy

This suspension happened because one or more characters on the account were identified exchanging, or contributing to the exchange of, in-game property (items or gold) for "real-world" currency. This exchange process negatively impacts the World of Warcraft game environment by detracting from the value of the in-game economy.

Even if this behavior is the result of a third party accessing the account instead of the registered user (for example, a friend, family member, or leveling service) then the account can still be held responsible for the penalty because of the impact it had on the game environment.

We've found the above behavior is many times directly related to groups responsible for compromising World of Warcraft accounts; we take these issues very seriously. To better understand our position against exploitative activity and the risks involved, please review this article: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/antigold.html

The exploitative activity that took place on this account violates the World of Warcraft Terms of Use. We ask you take a moment to review these terms at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.html. Note that additional Terms of Use violations may result in more severe actions against this account, up to and including permanent closure.

For any disputes of this action, please visit the Exploitative Activity FAQ and Contact page here: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article/exploitfaq

Gold Buying

We would like to make a clear statement here about the negative impact of buying gold and using power-leveling services. Every day, we encounter players who have been negatively affected and targeted by companies offering these services. So, we hope to raise awareness about the practices they engage in and the detrimental effects they have on all players, including their own customers, as well as on the game environment as a whole.

What many people don't realize when buying gold is the large impact it has on the game economy, and also how the companies selling gold obtain it. Our developers, in-game support, and anti-hack teams work diligently to stop the exploits these companies use and help players who have become victims of their services. We regularly track the source of the gold these companies sell, and find that an alarmingly high amount comes from hacked accounts. These are the friends, relatives, and guildmates you may know who have gone through the experience of having characters, gold, and items stripped from them after visiting a website or opening a file containing a trojan virus. Our teams work to educate players and assist them in avoiding account compromise, but the fact remains that the players themselves are often these companies' largest target as a source for gold, which the companies then turn around and sell to other players.

Through our normal support processes and the assistance of players, we also find that many accounts that have been shared with power-leveling services are then hacked into months later, and all of the items on the account are stripped and sold off. Basically, players have paid money to these companies, sometimes large amounts, and they're then targeted by these same companies down the road. We come across stories every week of the aftereffects of players using these services, and some players now have to deal with long-term repercussions -- in addition to consequences such as possible account suspension or closure, in many cases the companies they paid use their personal information to perpetrate identity theft and credit card fraud. These are long-lasting effects on players' personal lives that can take years to recover from.

We also want players to recognize that these companies often employ people to do their work through the use of disruptive hacks in the game, which can cause realm performance and stability issues. The companies essentially take time away from our development and in-game support efforts as we work to stop their exploits and assist players who have become their victims in recovering characters and items. They spam advertisements, use bots that make it hard for players to find the resources they need, and raise the cost of items through inflation.

The negative effects these companies create depend directly on people using their services. Without them, the companies have no way to continue their unethical actions. Furthermore, it's important to keep in mind that players are responsible for what happens with the account they play on. Selling gold for real money and having characters power-leveled are violations of our Terms of Use and End User License Agreement, and we regularly take corrective action when we find that these services have been used. We hope the information presented here is helpful to anyone considering buying gold or using a power-leveling service; these are just a few reasons that those services can negatively impact World of Warcraft and other games, and we strongly encourage players not to support the companies that offer them.

I logged out of World of Warcraft last night Sunday Feb. 7th around 9:00-10:00pm server time. Woke up this morning signed onto my account and this is what I've received. I have no idea why this happened. I never thought twice or once about purchasing gold. Gold? I can make enough of it on my own. I'm really good with the auction house and very patience when it comes to farming. I hardly farm anymore these days. I just work the auction house and sell stuff in trade channel for gold or buy stuff in trade channel with gold if it's a good deal and resell it later. I've accumulated a lot of stuff lately from buying and reselling and has been intensely trading and selling stuff for gold in either trade channel or auction house. If you are on my server you will be able to tell how active and addicted I am when it comes to trading. Especially the auction house. I still do not understand why I received this. Please look into this matter and resolve it. Just renewed my subscription yesterday night and would like to actually continue playing without any loss of days.

I'm on a trial account right now...

Is there any other way I can contact blizzard directly and have this matter loot into and resolved?

I'm online right now on this character that I am posting with. I can provide any GM with the account name that has been suspended in-game.

I'm sorry if this situation has caused any confusion or misunderstanding. If you feel that this account action occurred in error, then your best bet would be to send an email to [email protected] to dispute the matter.

Also, can you provide the name and realm of a character on that account? I may be in a position to provide further guidance.

Copied, for simplicity's sake.

Thanks Pahanda.

The possibility exists that the account in question might have been compromised. If your account was suspended due to actions taken while your account was compromised, then it will be necessary to dispute the account action by contacting our Account Administration department via the email address I provided in my previous post. You can also report the compromise itself via this address. Be sure that any contact with Account Administration occurs exclusively from the email address registered to your account.

At this point, it is very important that you please ensure that your computer is secure. You may find the following thread contains quite useful information for this purpose:

This thread covers the majority of the pertinent information related to an account compromise, including how to recover your account, how to report the compromise, as well as some of the complications that can occur:

A Blizzard Authenticator can bring not only a valuable layer of added security for your account, but peace of mind as well.
You can find out more about the Authenticator via this FAQ, the second link leads to the Blizzard store where you can purchase an Authenticator of your own:

You can also check the following sites to see if your wireless provider and mobile device are compatible with our free Mobile Authenticator, as well as read our FAQ on the subject:

I love blizzards logic. They have no actual proof if you buy gold, and yet they can ban you for it anyway.

It's an ingenious way to make more money.

I'm unable to go into detail regarding another player's account, but no account is suspended for 'no reason'. In some cases an account may be suspended due to actions taken by those who compromised the account.

The implication that we would suspend accounts for no reason in an effort to somehow profit from the situation, on the other hand, is patently ridiculous. I will consider further allusions of that rumor mongering sort to be trolling.

I just find it shady that Blizzard can, will, and has banned people without knowing for sure if they did anything wrong. It's all based on an assumption.

Ah, it's been quite some time Okky. I was under the mistaken impression that someone else had, by something resembling chance, ended up with the storied name of 'Fluffystuff'. I believe that you know very well that the actions we take are based on data and evidence, not supposition or assumptions. On extremely rare occasions, human variables have played a role - but our staff is more than happy to review such cases and address them appropriately. Even such rare cases are the result of data - though perhaps data misapplied, or perhaps the verifiable actions of a compromising party.

Dissenting opinions are one thing. Indeed, discussion can be beneficial for all involved if it is kept within the bounds of the forum code of conduct. Outright dissemination of blatantly incorrect information is quite another thing though, and it is best to stem the spread of such misinformation.
