Completely disgusted

So I had canceled my account back in december, because I was frustrated with the WoW community, and how badly PvE was nerfed down to be far too easy. But I also put up over the years with wink wink style tells, but of late before I canceled in december, started getting tells from random people wanting innappropriate dances.

So I come back this month, just to chat it up with friends, still suffering some burnout. But I also was working on getting a dress for this character from the love is in the air questing. What happened halfway through questing though, was both disgusting and worries me greatly for any children playing this game. Recieved a tell from a random guy with an innappropriate name, asking me to strip down, and that he wanted to do some descriptive things to me.

He doesn't know me, I don't know him. He doesn't know my gender, he doesn't know my age, but to just randomly whisper someone with such speak, what if instead of me, he was whispering some minor. I have a ticket open on this fellow, but this whole situation just has me disgusted because I know the ticket wont be answered for days on end.

And at this point, I am thinking seriously of parking my characters at each of their RP homes, saying goodbye to my kins (Horde and Alliance) and canceling for good. I know we have Blizzard to blame for this situation. Their lack of enforcing the rules, especially on RP servers, their lack of answering tickets at a reasonable time frame, has led to people with serious problems giving up and canceling the tickets.

The ecconomy on all servers is shot. The foulest of language is now the norm in any channel. Trade has degenerated to various jokes, spam and pointless flame wars. Anyone playing a female character is being singled out by perverts, even if they are fully covered in gear. There's servers with guilds dedicated to cybering. And to me, it seems like blizzard is turning a blind eye. I have a lot to think about but I am a hair inch from canceling for good, and if I had kids, no one in heck I would let them play this game.

anyways rant over, it's up to Blizzard now to decide how to proceed. But I play this game to have fun, not being told by some random pervert to undress, so he can chat violate me.

The following response was written by one of our new teammates. Because they are still in training and do not yet possess a forum account of their own, they shall be posting via proxy through me.

If you have not already Jaessca, please submit an in-game petition detailing the situation. Please be sure to include the offending character’s name and realm, as well as a brief description of what happened and when. This will allow our Game Masters to review the chat logs and take all appropriate actions.

In the meantime, the most effective and immediate solution to those you feel are offensive is to use the /ignore command to block all communication from the character. Ignoring and reporting at the first incident of harassment is far and away the best solution to issues of this nature. That said, if you feel Blizzard is not doing enough with regards to chat policies or anything of that nature, please feel free to let your voice be heard on our Suggestion forum.

I think it is important to note that our penalties for policy violation, particularly those regarding harassment, operate on a sliding scale. That is to say, the more a particular player violates these policies, the harsher the penalties become. Continual and flagrant disregard for policies will result in stronger and stronger actions taken against the account.

In this specific case Jaessca, I’d recommend ignoring the player in question, the first time they contact you with obscene or uncomfortable chat, rather than encouraging the player and “egging them on” so to speak. The Game Master receiving the reports will be able to review the entirety of the chat log, offender and reporting player alike, and take the appropriate actions in accordance with our policies.

That said, as laid out in our policies, chat harassment, of any kind, is not tolerated and violations of our chat policy will be met with the appropriate actions.

Also, Steale, what is the name and realm of the character you created these 25 petitions on? While I do see you’ve created several petitions, there do not seem to be any regarding the same character, or any reports about ongoing harassment, and certainly nothing like the 25 reports about one specific player.
