So tons of people are suddenly having authenticators pop up on their account. A few people I know this has happened to and there are dozens of threads with multiple people each complaining in the tech forum.

They are being told "Oh sounds like your account was compromised"

...Ok let me get this straight. You are saying someone hacked my account somehow (itself highly unlikely given how I use this machine) and then purchased a digital authenticator from blizzard and had it shipped to an address (a highly traceable action). They then waited for it to get to the address and then activated it on my account.

All on an account they would be locked out of the second it was determined they had access to it.

Who could be so stupid? This digital authenticator issue is obviously something else.

Maybe they should look at potential bugs or security leaks in their own systems or software before trying to blame me for it...

Likely Bustacap, your account has indeed been compromised. It is, unfortunately, commonplace for those that would steal accounts to attach Authenticators to them to make their recovery more difficult. You may wish to review the following threads, paying special attention to this section from the Account Compromise Info Center:

6.3 An Authenticator Was Added to My Account!
In some circumstances, malicious parties may add an Authenticator to an account to prevent access to anyone who does not possess the Authenticator. Please contact our Billing and Account Service Department to have the Authenticator removed from the account. Our Billing Representatives can be reached via phone using one of the following numbers:

As for potential security leaks on the Battle.net side of things, all account compromises have resulted from a client-side security breach. Battle.net has never been compromised and player account information has never been stolen or disseminated by a third-party. I would wholeheartedly advise following the steps listed above to ensure your computer, email address, and account are secure to help prevent future unauthorized access.

Once you have done so, create an in-game petition detailing what happened. This will be received by a member of our Game Master staff and they will forward your account information to our Character Specialists for investigation. They will be able to see what happened and offer any possible restoration for damages done.

Finally, in order to add an extra layer of security to your account, you may consider attaching an Authenticator of your own, in order to help prevent further unauthorized access.

It seems this thread has gotten quite a ways off course. I’ve provided you with the best and most effective ways to secure and recover your account Bustacap. Further discussion seems unfruitful at best, and as such this thread will now be locked.
