,,.you may lose it (or some of it!)

My guild lost 40 Primordial Saronite (disappeared from our bank), and I received the following email:

Q u o t e:
Recently while investigating a player who had been the victim of a scam, or compromise, a character on this account was found receiving item(s) and/or currency that had been obtained through exploitation of another player's account.

Our current policies regarding items or money obtained from scams or compromised accounts apply to players who knowingly or unknowingly received the items or money. If the character was found to have assisted with perpetuating the scam, or accessed the compromised account, they may receive an account penalty up to and including account closure.

At this time, the item(s) and/or money have been removed to reimburse the original owner and maintain balance within the in-game economy. If the original item(s) or gold were no longer present, we have removed an item or skill of equivalent value from the account.

For additional information regarding how these activities impact the game, please visit http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/.../antigold.html

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

This happened to another guild, Critical Mass, on our server as well, but they only lost 14 (all the current PS they had in the bank).

Sure, like any other top guild supplying PS for axes and for crafted items, we were buying it from other players, but how am I supposed to know which is from compromised accounts. Considering I had 53 in the bank and they took the two full stacks, it might suggest that they took the stacks that had PS bought from compromised accounts.

Trying to warn other guilds here, not sure we can do anything about it, but it's hardly fair that we lose all that gold and investment and my time on server purchasing/looking for it.

Blizzard has been unresponsive

I'm not certain how it can be said that we've been unresponsive, Heliaster, I was unable to find an e-mail from the registered address for this account to us regarding this matter. You have submitted an in-game petition but it will be some hours before even a basic response can be given.

Generally speaking, when we are required to remove items/gold from a character/guild bank due to them originating on a compromised account we do try to reimburse what was originally traded for them. It is possible that this part was overlooked or perhaps the originating cost could not be verified. In either case you'll want to submit an e-mail from the registered address on your account to [email protected].

The matter can be looked into and we'll see what can be done.

I will certainly pass on the thanks, Heliaster. I would also encourage sending in some feedback to his supervisors and let them know that you appreciated his assistance. :)
