Authenticator code after high lag?

Just got booted out of the game after experiencing higher than normal lag and now my login is asking me for the Authenticator Code

"Enter the generator digital code:"

Everything I read here is saying my account may have been compromised but I have been ultra cautious for the last 4 years... how can it happen so fast as I have been on my account right up until it happened... I find it hard to swallow that my account has been compromised...

Help me please... if my account has been hacked (still don't believe it) I don't know if I will continue to play if it is that vulnerable. I sense it is a Battle.net issue but I guess I will have to accept what I am told.

Hate to see 4 years gone down the gurgler.

Please help Blue.

Cheers

No, this would be a you got compromised issue, Akurgan.

You need to start with finding your security breach - as well as calling Billing to get the authenticator removed.

Very little can be done to an account that cannot be undone if reported promptly, but it's vitally important to find the source of this so it cannot happen again.

The information below should be useful.

------------

If an account has been merged to a Battle.net (not your own), or if an email has been changed, or an authenticator added (and it wasn't you that added it), one of your first stops is going to be Billing. They need to get those sorted out first so the rest of the processes can continue.

Players in Mexico should call 001-888-578-7628
Players in Argentina should call 0800-333-0778

Now, it's very very important to figure out where the security breach occurred. If they CAN get back in, they WILL be back. That, unfortunately, you can count on.

These two stickies should prove helpful. I'd also recommend doing your scans with the launcher open and some junk entry in the account ID. We've seen some nasty keyloggers pop up lately that don't want to show on scanners unless the launcher is active.

I also highly recommend changing your email password once you are certain your system is secure. They don't need into a system once they can dip into an inbox.

Also, if you have used the same password/ID anywhere else, that is a very dangerous practice - especially on websites, or social sites like Facebook or MySpace. Please do not reuse the same password you've used anywhere else.

You may also want to look into getting an authenticator for your account. It's no substitute for good security habits, but it will keep anyone else out of your WoW account. Not to mention core hounds make adorable pets!

We help players recover from this sort of this all the time. As long as a compromise is reported promptly, it usually has a good outcome.

Q u o t e:
looks like someone is leaking passwords out of blizz, coz my acc is also 4 to 5 years old and that also happened to me, I already reported it and changed passwords and still no word from blizz.

Gee Shock - and exactly how would that happen do you think?

Given that no one here can SEE a password - ever - not a soul.

There is a reason we say we will never ask for your password, it would do us absolutely no good. We can't see your password to check against even if you wanted to give it to us.

We can't see it, we don't want it, we don't need it.

Q u o t e:

dude, shut your piehole
no threat was found in my mac from 3 diferent scanners, and it was also a clean install from a few days ago

also being on a mac everything requires my password for access

in 5 years that never happened and outta nowhere im a moron that dont secure my computer?

i just hope this happens to you so you can stick ur post where the sun doesnt shine

obviously blizzard is lacking protection thus authenticators and all, and massive reports of numerous hacks

not everyone is a moron that clicks every email they get and buy gold from hackers

If you don't find this, Shock - it is VERY likely to happen again.

We offer authenticators because of the plethora of ways players can get tricked out of their information or have their security compromised.

WE have never had a breach of security to date - you need to keep looking if you haven't found the source.

It's not always malware, social engineering ranks right up there and most players never realize they've been phished until it's too late. That's the thing those emails often LOOK very legit. Check every header and link in any email.

Then there is that other computer you 'just logged into the forums' with that folks totally forget about.

Or that 'friend' that just 'borrowed' an account for a second and THEIR system isn't secure.

Authenticators are like locking your front door, just a jolly good idea.

Many of our international players speak highly of Skype, although some aren't as enamored of it and think it may be easily eavesdropped on.

The EU offices won't be able to help with a US account I'm afraid.

A call would be a far more expedient way to get that portion handled - provided they can verify your identity while you are on the phone Shock.
