Thrall Offline

I understand that Thrall appears to have gone offline. We are aware that Thrall has continued to experience intermittent issues and we continue to work to get to the root of these issues and keep them from occurring. In the meantime I have informed the appropriate parties and they will do everything they can to get the realm back up and running as swiftly as possible.

I'll be posting any updates I receive here in this thread, so please keep an eye out. Please help us keep this issue to one thread by posting any information here, instead of creating new threads.

It appears that Thrall is once again allowing players to long on. While I know this issue has been persistent, I wanted to ensure that everyone knew that they should be able to log back into the realm at this time.

Q u o t e:
Any updates as to WHY Thrall crashes or when we'll be given a stable server to play on?

Unfortunately, Brigid, I don't have any updates as to the cause of this issue. It seems to be mostly Northrend that is affected. Though whether this is a hardware or a software issue or a combination of the two, I couldn't say.

Outside of what has been posted in the Service Status forum I haven't heard any new information regarding the overall issue. While the overall issue is being worked on our Technicians are addressing what issues arise as they come.

Q u o t e:
What I would like to know, and what has still yet to be answered, is if Blizzard is planning to offer widespread compensation for this.

If compensation is provided is not determined by the Game Master department, and it has never been granted before an issue has been fully resolved. Once Thrall's overall issue has been resolved the possibility of compensation can be discussed. Though in this case it is likely unnecessary, given the amount of time this issue has persisted, but we recommend that if you would like to see compensation provided please post in the Suggestion Forum. Those who can make such a determination will review the request there.

Q u o t e:

I know Blizz likes money like anybody else, but would it be that big problem to offer free transfers even to select realms?

As a business that is kinda the goal but we also care a great deal about the product itself. We do not generally not offer Free Character Moves because of a persistent issues, unless the issue is caused by a consistently high population on a realm. Our goal is to resolve any technical issues.

Does this present an inconvenience for players on that realm while the issue persists? Yes, of course, but if we offered such moves while the issue persisted what happens after is has been resolved? Would those people then want to move back? What about the overall realm population? What is a relatively health realm is suddenly thrust into a low population realm?
Q u o t e:

Red text: That first paragraph sounded rude; I meant it as a way of saying I get that you probably don't deserve to be harassed as it's out of your control. Sorry if I came across as brash.

Thank you, Mnemosyn, for those of you who do not frequent this forum you may not know that we have seen these issues before. From time to time a realm may develop a persistent or reoccurring issue. In some cases these issues are easily resolved and in others they take time.

If the issue is related to hardware and we have the part(s) available we take the necessary steps to replace it. If the part is not available (as not all parts will be) then we must acquire then install it. It is also important to note that not all issues are hardware related it could be related to software or as I said before a combination of the two.

The one thing I can assure you when such issues occur it has always been a high priority to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. It may seem that nothing or very little is being done and I do apologize for not being able to provide more informative updates, but all that can be done is being done.

As always, if I am able to provide additional information I will. It will also likely be related in the post in the Service Status forum.

I have notified the appropriate parties of the most recent downtime, everyone. They are currently investigating this further and looking to bring the realm back online as soon as possible.

Q u o t e:
Appreciate the notification Aredek, but this crap is happening everyday 2-4 times per day. They should know it is down because they should be constantly monitoring it. Players from other realms don't even want to group with us because of the constant disconnects at crucial times.

Also, who the hell keeps track of your servers, I am astounded that Blizz needs customers to notify them that a server is down. I work in IT and if I am not aware that a server has gone down, I can start looking for a new job.

I apologize for any misunderstanding, Relic. My intention was not meant to indicate that our Realm Technicians were not already aware of the realm's current status -- that is hardly the case as they were already working to address the issue when the first post was being made. When referencing appropriate parties in regards to this issue, I was referring to a large number of people in various different positions who might help address issues related to the downtime. For example, members of our Game Master staff were notified to look for incoming petitions regarding this and other related issues (such as stuck characters). Additionally, members of management team were notified to ensure they have all the necessary data for determining how best to address this and future issues moving forward.

Our technicians are actively working to bring Thrall back online as quickly as possible. We do not yet have an ETA to provide; however, should this information become available we will provide an update within this thread as soon as the information becomes available. Accordingly, I request that you keep all related discussions isolated to this thread.

A number of posts are being made requesting compensation as a result of the multiple realm issues you have experienced. While I cannot provide any guarantees, this is something that has been and will continue to be discussed. Traditionally, however, game time reimbursements are provided after an issue has been resolved to ensure that the appropriate amounts are awarded. Should you wish to make any such suggestions, please feel free to create a post on the Suggestions Forum or respond to a similar thread already found within.

Then we should all create new forum topics. Constantly, the entire server. Way I see it I am paying them per month to play a game, and since the game I want to play is not working, and I have no one to complain too, then I should be able to create my own games at their expense.

I can assure you that this tactic will only result in further frustrations for you and your fellow players as it would then require me to spend more time moderating your posts rather than seeking answers to the questions you are posing.

While gathering information on this, I found that the technicians are already aware and working as quickly as possible to restore access to Thrall, everyone. I'll do my best to acquire any additional information as it becomes available.

This issue appears to be a bit unique when compared to the other issues surrounding Thrall. Because the realm is not down, but did remove players and is currently restricting logins, we will need to restart the realm briefly after a few additional changes are made.

We will continue to monitor this issue and update you with any additional information as it becomes available.

The restart process has been complete and the realm is currently accepting logins, everyone. If you have not done so, I encourage you to try logging in again at this time.

Threefist--

We certainly hope to see this issue permanently resolved, and will continue doing whatever we can until we reach that goal. A lot of time and effort goes into making and maintaining this game for our players' enjoyment, and the absolute last thing we want to see is a player staring at a "realm down" (or similar) message. We'll do whatever it takes to bring you a stable realm as soon as possible, Threefist.

look familiar?

it should - its the standard cut & paste response they send everyone

thanks for taking the time to cut & paste the response.......

I'm not certain what your point would be, Diki.

You contacted Technical Support about an issue that our Realm Technicians address, the only thing they could give you is a standard response regarding realm issues, including unexpected downtime. If you would like unique hand typed responses for each and every report of the same issue you are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum with that request.

Gee - maybe Blizzard has it stabilized. No crash comments here since the 21st and it's the 24th. That would be Grand!

They are less frequent, Dungwen, our staff continues to work on the overall cause of the issue but have managed to provide some stability.
Q u o t e:

Currently on Thrall the AH is broken and one of my characters is stuck in a loading screen...getting reports of this from various other people as well.

EDIT: And now Orgrimmar is frozen.

Thank you, Seiru, I'll see what I can find out.

Not quite true. I just went to Howling Fjord and guess what, world server is down.

Indeed, it was originally Kalimdor but it looks like Northrend is also having some issues. Our Technicians are checking it out and will try to get those back online as quickly as possible.

Q u o t e:
So, I've logged on twice now in the last week and both times, Thrall is offline.

Is there a manner in which we can request a free transfer? I have two 80s that I would like to be gearing and a 50-something I'd like to be leveling, but the two times I've had free time in the last week, Thrall is fubar.

This is ridiculous.

Unlikely, Noiriara. We do not provide Free Character Moves based on ongoing technical issues that are being worked on. You are welcome to post in the Suggestion forum with the request, though I have been here through several realm specific issues before and sponsoring a mass exodus from a realm is generally not an option. Our goal has and continues to be to resolve the overall issue.

I am currently waiting on an update, but really have nothing at all further to constructively add.

I know this is frustrating, our techs are on the matter. I wish I had more news, I simply have nothing further I can add at this time.
