PPM Behavior Nerf?

So there have been rumors of this going around on various theory sites.

Apparently, the behavior of all PPM mechanics has been changed, so that they no longer proc off certain things which they did before. This translates to less uptime for things like berserking, the Heartpierce proc, and less Bryntroll procs.

Personally, I've noticed a drop from about 5100 dps to 4700 dps on a target dummy overnight. All variables were the same: gear, buffs, debuffs, etc.

As I'm a mutilate rogue using Heartpierce and dual Berserking, a change of this sort might be more significant for me than it would be for other classes.

Some other numbers: rough testing before this showed that the invigoration buff from Heartpierce was giving around 1.5 as much energy as 2/5 relentless strikes. Now it is only giving around 1/2 of 2/5 relentless strikes.

This initially came up when people were discussing a nerf to the Tiny Abom in a Jar. Now it looks like it isn't limited to that item, and in fact affects all PPM-based mechanics. Blizzard has commented on the reports of Tiny Abom in a Jar being nerfed, saying that they knew nothing about it.

Hopefully this is just a mistake that will be hotfixed soon. If not, it could really hurt Festergut progression, as this will likely hurt all melee classes pretty badly as well.

Also: It seems to be pretty clear that this actually is an issue, and not just RNG or a mistake on my part. I've discussed it with several other guildies and had them check as well. My request is if people responding to this thread could do some tests and comment on any changes they are noticing.

We changed the way PPM procs work to make sure many of the weapons and trinkets did their expected performance in Icecrown instead of proc'ing too much for some specs or classes or forcing players into unusual behavior to try and fish for the procs. This change also affected some older mechanics in the game too such as the Berserking enchant. For the most part the intent is that these systems all proc off of attacks and they are balanced with that assumption.

At this time we're happy with the damage that characters are now doing after these changes, though we'll continue to monitor and adjust damage overall and that includes the proc-based items.
