LFG/Group Matching Mechanic QQing

Can someone please point me in the direction of a blue post, or patch notes explain how the LFG system pairs you with other players.

It seems to me, as a very well geared tank I'm ALWAYS forced to carry extremely under geared players. My understanding is that the system tried to matched you with people close to your gear range. Now, that's not to say that one person in the group might not be so geared, or that everyone in my group ought to be fully decked out in 258/264 gear. But if I were to matched, even somewhat close to my gear level I would expect to see 3 out of 4 other people with mostly 232 gear.

This is not the case. I've tracked the random groups I end up in and not once has this been true of 3/4 of the other players. In fact, I would say MAYBE 1 out of the 4 is partially in 232 gear. By partially, I mean wearing 2 pieces and the rest 200 or 219.

Is my understanding of the system just not correct or is there some conspiracy against me that I'm not aware of?

Gear, level, prior dungeon experience—there's multiple criteria. The goal of these criteria is to create a well-rounded group that's capable of completing a specific dungeon successfully. This means that not all players in your group may have the best gear in the game or participated in the queued dungeon over 9000 times. There's an element of balance.

Even so, and as Selenic has noted, the longer you've been waiting in queue for a dungeon, the more lenient the Dungeon Finder will be. The search for compatible players will expand and less emphasis will be placed on certain criteria.

In addition to the quote Selenic has provided, information is also available here: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=21627535173&sid=1

If a minimum gear requirement is in place for a specific dungeon, Trogdaar, a player must meet the requirement in order to queue for that dungeon through the Dungeon Finder. No amount of matchmaking (or leniency provided by the system) will remove the minimum gear requirement.
