The 202 message is meant to indicate that our system was unable to process your upgrade at this time. It is not implying a card may or may not work in general, so I do apologize if there was any confusion. The best alternatives in this case are to try a different payment method, purchase the game in store (using the authentication key to upgrade), or call the Billing & Account Services department over the phone so they can attempt to process your card that way.
Using a retail copy to upgrade takes the cake in my book as a physical authentication key used on a trial account upgrades it right away and removes all restrictions, where as an Electronic Upgrade does need to wait until the charge finalizes (up to 72 hours) before all restrictions on an account are lifted.
