Minor confusion regarding a cross-realm trade

I recently received this e-mail.

Q u o t e:
Greetings,

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

Recently, a scam was reported to us about an item that was traded in a dungeon.
We show that your character <<blahblah>> made an agreement to trade 12g for the Needle-Encrusted Scorpion. At this time, you are not in trouble for this issue as money cannot be traded in cross-realm dungeons that are started using the DungeonFinder tool. Please keep in mind before making these types of agreements that only the following items can be traded in the cross-realm dungeons:

* conjured items (ie Conjured Mana Strudel)
* Items that drop in the dungeon
* items created in the dungeon

Please keep these things in mind in the future before making these types of agreements.

Thanks you so much for your time. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

*** Please do not respond to this email as all conversations on this matter would be best handled online. ***

My questions are this;
1. Why does the UI allow us to trade gold if we actually aren't allowed to?
2. Further investigation would show that I simply offered to play vendor price (rounded up to a whole number), since a priest (iirc) won it with the greed roll, so ... how are we supposed to Politely obtain offspec items without impeding those rolling for mainspec?
3. When I log in tonight, is Needle-Encrusted Scorpion still going to be in my bags, and if not, will the whole 12g be back in my bags?

4. A scam? I had an account banned once, I've done my best to stay under the radar since then and obey all the rules ( I think I've had a 3 hour ban for profanity in trade chat). Calling it a scan seems kinda harsh, don't you think?

Edit: Didn't mean to come off sounding jerkish, just wanna know how to deal with this situation in the future, because I'm pretty sure I'm about to get 10+ more of these e-mails. Needle-Encrusted Scorpion was not the only offspec item I obtained over the last 2 weeks.

As gold cannot be traded between characters from different realms, an agreement which involves the trade of an item (earned as part of a cross-realm dungeon's progression) for gold simply cannot be adhered to in full. Provided that the other individual participating in the trade is from a different realm, at least.

See, what ended up happening is that you successfully received the Needle-Encrusted Scorpion, but the original owner was unable to receive the 12 gold you promised in return. This seems to have been an accident. So, the email you received simply restates the gold trade restrictions and asks that you not make agreements which involve the trade of gold with characters from different realms in the future. This is to prevent possible scams.

If you continue making such agreements (those which cannot be met), though, we may need to take further action.
