Unable to Merge Previous Account to Bnet Acct

-I wanted to reactivate my account that I had previously.
-WoW.com wouldn't let me continue without registering with a new battle.net account. ["Please log in with your associated Battle.net account."]
-I registered a new battle.net account with this same email address.
-The battle.net account does not have memory of my previous WoW account, so I go to merge it with the older account (that is currently inactive or cancelled). ["This Battle.net account does not have any World of Warcraft accounts associated with it. To merge a World of Warcraft account with this Battle.net account, click here."]
-When I go to merge, it says login invalid. Possibly because the account is inactive/cancelled?
-I cannot access the previous WoW account on any login site (WoW.com, login for game redirects me to battle.net, and the actual merging site says login invalid)- for some unknown reason to me.
-Unable to continue.

-When I attempt to logon via the login screen for the game, it says I need to merge such and such with the battle.net account.

It's been a good number of months since I've played, and I'm 100% positive of my previous login/password details. I wouldn't be able to reach the link to redirect me to bnet merging without the proper details.

I've contacted Billing via email, and attempted calling, only to sit on the line for roughly 45 minutes.

Previous times when I've taken lengthy breaks, it was very very smooth and quick transactions to get back into the game. With the addition of this battle.net account, this is definitely slower.

Q u o t e:
Are you following these steps?

http://us.battle.net/
Login with your new battle.net username (email address) and password.
Select * Merge a World of Warcraft® Account
Enter your WoW account name and password.

If it reports that the account info is wrong or already merged, you will need to contact Billing and Account Services.

Thank you, Brynhildur, that would be my recommendation as well. You may also want to try clearing your temporary internet files (cookies and cache). If you continue to have an issue please contact our Billing and Account Services department, they should be able to help.

You can call 1 (800) 592 5499 (1-800-59-BLIZZARD) 8AM-8PM (PST) for live representation.

Australian users should please call 1-800-041-378 if the standard 800 line does not work.

You are logging into the Battle.net account that this account is registered to, Aramisun?

It shouldn't make any difference is the account is inactive. Can you give me the name and realm of a character on that account if you can recall it?

In my friends case its Divinewings//Turalyon

Hmm, I can see that a Battle.net account was created with the e-mail address that is registered to that account.

Once logged into the Battle.net account he goes to the following link and the information he inputs comes back invalid?

https://us.battle.net/account/management/wow-account-conversion.xml

The information he may be entering could be incorrect. Have him try resetting his password since he does have access to the registered e-mail address.

The password reset changed his battle.net password when he chose World of Warcraft retrieval. And still doesn't work.

He needs to change the World of Warcraft account password, not the Battle.net account.

If he is putting in his World of Warcraft account name there is no reason that his Battle.net account should be changed.

If that doesn't work I'm afraid the only option I can think of is to contact our Billing department in the morning.

I'm sorry I can't do more.
