Affliction now unplayable after hotfix

No this isn't about exploiting rolling haste buffs on corruption, I never did that nor wanted to, and am glad it's gone.

However, the hotfix completely broke affliction.

Haste shortens the duration of corruption with the glyph of quick decay.

Prior to the hotfix, when corruption was refreshed by haunt, it was set to an 18 second duration but with the faster ticks. This gave you plenty of time for haunt to come off cd, be cast, fly and hit the target and refresh it.

Now, after the hotfix, when corruption is refreshed by haunt you get the shorter, hasted duration based off your current haste at the time. Problem is, it is extremely easy to have enough haste that corruption falls off the target before haunt comes off cd, is cast, and flys and hits the target.

Self buffed, I have ~660 haste. I have no black magic, no 5% raid buff, no 3% raid buff, no heroism etc. On the dummy right now if I get an eradication proc (20% haste, major key component of the affliction tree), corruption's duration will be too short to allow haunt to refresh it. Eradication is up very often.

Any eradication proc. Any heroism. Any power infusion. Hell maybe even just standard raid buffs. The spec is just simply broken now.

It will really suck if you can't fix this without simply removing haste from corruption altogether, because it impacts demonology as well, who gets a large improvement in enjoyability from the hasted corruptions leading to more frequent, more consistent molten core procs.

Cleaning up all of the garbage in this thread so we can get some decent information while we try and figure out what is happening.

I don't know of a polite way to say this, but players who continue to junk up this thread with insults and nonsense will be banned.

The best part is all it takes is a we are aware of the issue and are looking at ways to correct post to stop these threads.

I don't think that is too much to ask from a company who is accepting payment for their service.

If you fish for blue responses, you will be banned. Hiding behind an alt doesn't prevent the ban because it affects your entire account.

I am aware of this.

Gratz on being the first to post a useless reply in a thread in which I specifically we said we only wanted actual information and not bored or angry players posting nonsense.

Think about this: yelling and screaming and launching a dozen threads on a topic does not get things looked at faster. It slows us down because we have to wade through so much junk.

how on earth do you still have a job? If a store employee talked that way to a customer, they would be fired before days end.

Banned.

Please keep this thread focused on the issue.

Ive gotta say i don't really like the way this thread is being moderated , seems very draconian and im almost scared to post at all. Nonetheless ;

We're trying to come up with an elegant solution to a problem. There are some good posts in here. We don't want the thread to get to 200 pages of "Lol Blizz hates locks" junk. Post on the actual topic and keep the dumb insults and QQ out and you'll be fine.

We're normally a little more lenient on posts that don't contribute anything, but we're trying to keep this post clean and don't want to have to lock it.

Im forced to play... (gags).... demo at the moment in tonights raid.

Please hot fix soon. .

If you're just joining us, please do not make *any* post in this thread that is not specifically on the topic of the Glyph of Quick Decay. This is not the post on all things warlock, and it's certainly not a post on Blizzard design philosophy.

You guys have almost filled up the thread now. Ask yourself if you are really contributing something new before you hit that Post button.

After discussing this issue, the solution we are leaning towards is to add Shadow Bolt to the list of spells that Everlasting Affliction allows to refresh Corruption. It's a fairly safe change (in terms of not breaking anything), more or less keeps Affliction using the same spells, but lets you invest in the Glyph of Quick Decay.

This is not a promise. Until you see an announcement that this change is going live, understand that we may actually end up going a different way. I did want to let you know about what we're thinking though.

I also wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread in a positive manner. It's almost unprecedented to see a thread go 26 pages and have 80 to 90% of the posts actually stick to the topic. While I'm not sure the thread needed to go quite this long, it's still a pretty nice feat for an Internet forum. I think these forums can only benefit from having more threads like this in the future. Hopefully they won't all require such harsh enforcement to keep in line.

UPDATE: We are going to hotfix this soon, hopefully Dec 14 or 15. The tooltip may not mention Shadow Bolt as soon as the change goes in, because tooltips are harder to hotfix.

Is this something that can be hotfixed in to live servers without a major patch (and server down time)? In other words will be waiting for a while?

Again, I can't promise anything, but part of the appeal of this solution is that it is easy to deploy. More info when I have some.

We might add Drain Soul to Everlasting Affliction too.

Any word from the devs if adding drainsoul to everlasting affliction is still being thought about? :(

Hotfix incoming. I can't give you a precise day or time.

To be clear, when the dust settles for 3.3, both Shadow Bolt and Drain Soul will also count for Everlasting Affliction refreshing Corruption in addition to Haunt and Drain Life.
