Gear gone after suspension

I recieved a letter last Friday saying something about "exploitation of game economy" aka Blizz thought I sold gold. I never sold nor traded gold in my life, and was surprised to see a 72 hour suspension tied with the offense. On Sunday when I got back the account, my main (Hel) had only 2 pieces of his Tier 8.25 Arms gear left, his prot gear was completely gone, along with his gold. My 80 DK had his gold wiped, but gear untouched. My lvl22 lock was untouched.

Now did Blizzard think I gained my gear through illegal means and brought my character back to a 1-2 week backup of their old self (thus wiping most of their gear and gold) or was I hacked? I think the hacker may have bought gold on the account (enticing the email), was in a panic, sold what he could and ran, though I'm still a bit confused. Does Blizzard roll back accounts?

I sent an in-game "Report an Issue" thing, but how long will it take to hear back from them so I can get my gear/gold back and get along with my life [in WoW]?

Q u o t e:

Should I change the registered email or would that make it look like the account was hacked again?

You may change your e-mail address if you wish, Helsinger. That won't raise any flags for us. :)

It looks like you submitted a petition around two hours ago, that petition will be forwarded by our Game Master staff for further investigation. Current investigation times is around 6-7 days, Helsinger. You will be contacted by e-mail once your investigation has been completed.

I'm glad to hear that you have authenticator, Helsinger. Since you have the mobile authenticator you may want to write down the serial number and keep it some place safe.

Good luck, I wish you a speedy recovery.
