Common Display Issues

Often times after a patch, user interface (UI) files can become corrupt or out-dated. These issues most commonly affect custom AddOns or modifications (such as QuestHelper, Bartender, etc). Without clearing out these "old" custom UI files, one may encounter major display issues such as items "disappearing," not being able to see in-game chat, being unable to whisper other players, and many other unpleasant situations.

While simply disabling or updating your AddOns may resolve these discrepancies, the only means by which to guarantee that a given issue is not being caused by the UI is to fully reset it.

With the game closed please try moving or deleting your WTF, Cache, and Interface folders out of your World of Warcraft directory. These are temporary files that will be recreated by the game the next time you launch. Moving them to the desktop makes it easy to replace them if necessary.

Step by step guides for your operating system can be found below.

Windows XP/2000
-Click the Start button, select Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
-In the new window click the + beside the My Computer option, this should expand a list.
-Click the + beside the Hard Disk with the (C:) label on the end (Or whichever Hard Disk the game was installed on).
-Click the + beside Program Files.
-Scroll down until you find World of Warcraft in the list and double click it.
-In the panel on the right there should be a list of files and folders, the WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders should be in this list.
-Single click one of those folders and it should become highlighted, once that folder is highlighted press the Delete key on your keyboard. Do this for all three folders.
-Once the three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher to see if this helps resolve your issue.

Windows Vista/7
-Click the Start button, select All Programs, select Accessories and select Windows Explorer.
    - If the UAC is enabled, which it is by default, then the system will also be caching these three folders. Towards the top of the Windows explorer window should be a Link labeled "Virtual store", please click on this. In the Virtual store folder, please check if there is a World of Warcraft folder, and if so please delete the three folders WTF, Cache and Interface from this location as well.
-Once these extra three folders have been deleted you can close Windows Explorer.
-You will need to restart your system at this point.
-Start the game again using the World of Warcraft Launcher, when starting the game right click on the game icon, and select Run As Administrator. This will make sure that any settings you change in game are saved correctly.

Mac OS X
-Click on the desktop and then the Go menu on the top.
    -Click Applications.
-Scroll down to World of Warcraft and select it.
-Right-click (Control+click if you own a 1-button mouse) on the Cache folder and select Move to Trash.
-Perform the above step for the Interface and WTF folder as well.
-Double-click the World of Warcraft application to launch the game and verify if the issue has been resolved.

Cross-Realm Dungeon Inventory Issue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: - 12/9/2009

A fix was implemented earlier this morning and this issue should no longer be occurring. Thank you for your patience.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is an issue currently affecting the cross-realm dungeons when one player wins an item roll and then trades that item to another player who is from another realm. Under these circumstances, when leaving the instance the item may appear to be lost for some players. We expect this issue to be resolved as soon as possible, but want to remind players that they will need to have space available in the original backpack for the item to be returned when the resolution is complete.

The above post was originally made on the General forum: (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=21723842445&sid=1).

Core Hound Pet Not Received

Players are reporting that they never received a Core Hound Pup despite having an Authenticator actively attached to their account. If you are experiencing this issue, please try changing your Battle.net password as this has been known to resolve the issue for some players. We will continue to investigate this issue and provide additional information herein as soon as it becomes available.

Notable Mac Specific Issues

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: - 12/14/2009

Patch 3.3.0a resolved many of these issues. For more information, please see the following thread: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=21726117708&sid=1
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have received reports that players using the Mac client are experiencing the following issues:

  • Mouse scrolling issues
  • Using the command key in combination with other keys can turn on auto-run
  • Input lag when using Mac trackpads
  • Desktop gamma/tint issues
  • Vsync does not work

A patch will be applied to resolve these issues as soon as possible; however, we have identified a possible workaround. You may be able to avoid the aforementioned issues by following these steps:

    1) Close the WoW application
    2) Navigate to your main World of Warcraft folder
    3) Open the config.wtf file in your WTF folder using TextEdit
    4) Add the following line to the bottom of the file: SET gxapi "OpenGL"
    5) Save and Close
    6) Restart WoW

25-Day Call Stabled Pet Cooldown

A number of Hunters are reporting that their Call Stabled Pet ability displays a 25-day cooldown after changing specs within a cross-realm instance. We are currently investigating this issue in hopes of providing a resolution as quickly as possible; however, we have received reports that this issue can be resolved by queuing for and participating in an arena skirmish. Should the issue persist after you've left the skirmish, please feel free to open an in-game petition so that our Game Masters may be able to provide additional assistance.

Missing Satchel of Helpful Goods

We've received several reports of players not receiving a Satchel of Helpful Goods when completing several lower-level classic dungeons (namely Shadowfang Keep, Dire Maul, and Blackrock Depths). We're investigating this issue currently and will provide further updates as they become available.

In the meantime, should you not receive a Satchel of Helpful Goods for completing your first random classic (or World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade non-Heroic) dungeon of the day *, you are welcome to submit an in-game petition so the matter may be looked into further. Include your character's name and level, realm, the name of the random dungeon in which you participated, and the time it was completed.

* Please note that if your inventory is full when a Satchel of a Helpful Goods is automatically looted, you will not be able to receive the item. The Satchel will instead be mailed to your character. If you believe you did not receive a Satchel due to your inventory being full, please check your mailbox before submitting an in-game petition.

Gni'kiv Medallion and the Shaft of Tsol

The Gni'kiv Medallion and Shaft of Tsol are two items which drop in Uldaman and, together, they form the Staff of Prehistoria. The Staff of Prehistoria, once formed, can then be used to summon the boss Ironaya. While Ironaya is an optional boss and not essential to a dungeon's progression, without the Staff of Prehistoria, she cannot be summoned.

At this time, the Gni'kiv Medallion and Shaft of Tsol are not considered conjured items or boss drops and so cannot be traded to characters from different realms. Thus, if two members of a cross-realm dungeon group each loot one of these items, there will be no way to form the Staff of Prehistoria. We're currently investigating this issue.

In the meantime, please ensure that the same character loots both the Gni'kiv Medallion and Shaft of Tsol. This will ensure that your dungeon group is still able to form the Staff of Prehistoria and summon Ironaya.

Gunship Battle Looting Issues

We have received a number of reports indicating that players may not be receiving loot from the Gunship Battle despite participating in the event. Many of these issues have been resolved via hotfix; however, our investigations thus far indicate that players who enter a cannon before the event takes place, do not participate in the battle outside of the cannon, and die before the event has concluded may be deemed ineligible for loot. Accordingly, we encourage each player to submit an in-game petition if they believe their character was unable to receive loot, so that we may investigate this further.

Items Missing From Gallywix's Lockbox and Duskwood Chest

We've received many reports that Gallywix's Lockbox and the Duskwood Chest are no longer providing the Cache of Zanzil's Altered Mixture and Klaven Mortwake's Journal when opened, preventing players from completing the rogue quests "Mission: Possible But Not Probable" and "Klaven's Tower," respectively. We're looking into these reports at this time.

Please note, however, that the Poison skill is no longer gained from the completion of these quests. Rather, poisons may now simply be purchased from various vendors across Azeroth.

Test at Sea, The Slumbering King, The Flesh Giant, and Nice Hat

Many players have recently reported difficulty completing the quests "Test at Sea," "The Slumbering King," and "Nice Hat."

  • Test at Sea: Players are receiving the error message "You need to be in The Sea Reaver's Run" when attempting to use Plague Vials.
  • The Slumbering King: Queen Angerboda is not spawning appropriately.
  • The Flesh Giant: Margrave is not spawning appropriately.
  • Nice Hat: Don Carlos does not drop the quest item "Don Carlos' Hat."

We're aware of these issues and looking into them currently.
