Glaring Game Mechanic Inconsistency

I've discovered that if you jump directly into the air from a stand-still and press forward, your character will progress in a forward manner, while in mid-air.

Now... *snort* are we to believe that on Azeroth, the fundamental principles of physics don't apply. Specifically, Newton's first law of motion states that, "Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. "

Are we to believe that some "magical" lateral force is being applied to our character whilst in mid-air? That's absolutely preposterous. I would like an official blue response on this subject or I will be forced to cancel my subscription.
