Why a nerf on all AOE?

Area-of-Effect Damage Caps: We’ve redesigned the way area damage is capped when hitting many targets. Instead of a hard cap on total damage done, the game now caps the total damage done at a value equal to the damage the spell would do if it hit 10 targets. In other words, if a spell does 1000 damage to each target, it would hit up to 10 targets for 1000 each, but with more than 10 targets, each target would take 1000 damage divided by the number of targets. 20 targets would be hit for 500 damage each in that example.

Ok, as I understand it there is currently a hard cap on aoe damage (for some spells). This hard cap is a fixed number, so once you hit the ceiling you will never go above it no matter how much better your gear gets. If you reach that cap on your first day in the instance, you will be seeing the same damage three months later when you are only running the instance for some quick and easy badges.

The new change will still be capped, but it will be capped based on the damage you do to a specific number of targets rather than a fixed number. As your gear gets better, you will continue to see your aoe damage go up on that same pack of mobs.

This is a pretty good explanation. I suspect very few of you will see a nerf on actual content . It could be a nerf on very large AE packs, which are pretty much confined to Onyxia in current content. In other situations, your AE damage can now scale better with gear and buffs instead of hitting discrete damage caps.

Not sure why the call for a nerf on AoE, but am I the only one who finds it hilarious the first patch shaman get a real AoE, AoE is also getting nerfed? Classic.

We get bonus points for as many shaman slaps in the face per patch as possible. High five! There. Got it out of your system? Can we move on now? :)

Question, GC. Will DK diseases now be considered AoE for purposes of this new change, or will Unholy DK "AoE" further surpass other classes abilities because it is not considered a true AoE?

Technically, we can't cap disease damage in the same way, though we wish we could. It's not technically an AE; it's just that Pestilence spreads diseases around very well.

The encounter designers will flag some creatures to take less disease damage when they think DKs are capable of too much AE on that encounter.

While i dont agree with what the other guy said. I do think your anger twords us is showing. And its ugly.

Don't confuse sarcasm with anger. It was a silly thing for the shaman to say, and I called him on it. You guys are incapable of making me angry. Don't give yourselves that much credit. :)
