Recruit A Friend

I've read through the "recruit a friend" section in my account managment screen, it seems foggy on the details.

If i talk a friend into buying WoW (retail) , which I just did, how can we set her up so that we benefit from recruit a friend?

She signed up for the 10 day free trial. Then we found a good deal on the battle chest. We want to work it so that we can play together via recruit a friend but it sure seems confusing as to how it is supposed to work.

So i send her an email, with some sepcial code, she uses that durring ACCOUNT creation and thus as a special keycode? So then what do we do with the battle chest? Wipe our behinds? Also does the month that you get with the base game count toward the 3 months?

Q u o t e:
I understand the basics of how it works, but I'm confused about the purchase methods.

If she signs up for an new account (which is annoying since it was only 4 days ago to begin with but anyhow...) so she signs up for a new account with this "recruit a friend keycode"

Go ahead and read over these resources, Tacitucs. They should help. :)

In short, though: You log into Battle.net Account Management and access the account from which you wish to issue a Recruit-A-Friend invitation. Select "Recruit-A-Friend" from the list of Promotions and complete the steps which follow (https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/recruit-a-friend.html?).

Once you're done, your friend will receive an email with a Recruit-A-Friend invitation key code included. Your friend will then need to use this key to create a new trial account. This new trial account will then be linked to your account and may be upgraded immediately. (Please note that this key may not be applied to an existing account. It can only be used to create an account.)
