Punishment for such scams can vary, based on severity and if the player has a past history of breaking the rules. Not just if they've scammed in the past, but we take other things into account like harassment reports or inappropriate name changes. We do try to educate players in many situations, but if the offense is severe enough, a suspension is likely.

Scamming is considered a pretty serious offense, and in valid cases, a player might expect a short term suspension and a removal of the scammed goods. In some cases, we may be able to provide reimbursement to the player that was scammed, but understand that this may not be possible in every situation.

Given the situation you described, this does sound like it would qualify, and possibly for a reimbursement in the best case scenario. I'd definitely put a petition in regarding the situation as soon as possible and please try to be as descriptive about the situation as you can! Player name and realm is best, or an accurate description of the character (race, class and level are all useful) with an estimated time of when you last chatted with them. Time of when the scam itself occurred, of course, would also be very valuable to such an investigation!
