Ninja loot trading???

OK, Hi =)
Here's a crazy scenario...

A mageblade drops off of ony25. Raid leader calls for MS rolls.. Myself [warlock], a few other casters and a shaman roll. I roll the highest second only to the shaman who cannot use nor equip the item.

The raid leader, a Mage who rolled less than us both master loots the item to the shaman to the disgust of some of the raid members.
Here's where it gets tricky.. The Mage and Shaman are both of the same small guild. The mage has the item 20 mins later...

Both ignore my plea to trade me the item. Aswell as a bit of laughing, taunting and abuse.

Have i been 'ninja'd'?? is the item rightfully mine??

There is no such thing as 'ninja looting' in WoW.

By definition, ninja refers to taking something you have no rights to - to steal it.

The system won't let anyone that doesn't have access legitimately loot.

The issue here is you had it on Master Loot. Master Looters are free under that loot type to do anything they please with loot distribution - and by participating in that group under that loot type - you've agreed to that whether you realize it or not.

Player arrangements over and above the system safeguards aren't necessarily binding on the Master Looter.

Were the rules laid out clearly in ingame chat and agreed to? If so, you may have a slim case for a 'scam', depending on the situation. If not, the best thing to do is not use that loot type with a group you do not know or cannot know you can trust.

I realize this is frustrating, but there are safeguards built into the system to prevent this exact scenario.

You're like my favorite GM right now but I simply MUST pick on you a little bit for this one.

Even if they had used the "Group roll" built-in-dice feature, What is the "safeguard" that prevents some random druid from needing on a mage-sword, winning it over all the other casters who rolled need on it (being looted the item that he cant equip to him BY the system) and then trading it to some mage from his guild who DIDN'T win the roll via the new BoP item trade feature?

Ahhh, never said it was perfect :), it does prevent this particular scenario, however.

Have you seen the upgrades to the loot system coming soon? Hopefully those will help even further.

Oh, loot rules were simply 'Main spec roll now'

And No, i wasn't informed that 'scams' of rolling on items you cannot use to trade to others was allowed. lol

See, that's a directive, not an agreement.

Nothing in that statement necessarily binds a Master Looter to adhere to it.

Do you see the difference?

Reprehensible? Sure. Dastardly? Probably. Against the rules under that loot type, probably not.

Well we know that is not exactly right tho either since I have seen a few posts now where the ML took the ony mount only to have a GM later take it back from him because others in the raid reported him for ninja'ing.

There has been a quite a few instances of the ML loosing loot he has taken.

So being the ML does not mean they are free to do anything they please and that has been proven many times.

Each of these is examined case by case.

If there are prior agreements, that can be a case of scamming.
